First off, I didn't get any sleep the night before. Secondly, 100 pounds IS heavy!
Can't believe I'm saying this, but... do you even HVAC, bro?

Most importantly...if someone is paying your cable TV bill, then you at least attempt to help that person move a water heater regardless of: (1) whether you actually want to help; (2) whether you slept the night before; and (3) whether you think it is heavy. Doing otherwise - whcih is what you did here - makes you appear ungrateful.

Personally, I think it sounds like you uncle is trying to teach you some life lessons which you probably should have learned years ago (and which you must learn if you ever want to live independently).

Fuck a water heater. We got one of those tankless Rinnai systems when we moved into our house and switched everything to gas. It's been the best thing ever.

^Still a water heater  We have an electric and aside having to open it up every 24 months to clean out hard water deposits - it's solid technology. We are 6 and have never had an issue with keeping enough hot water. They are pricey but pay for themselves within a couple years and obviously save a ton of space.

I am captivated by someone who can't find a job, stays up until 2 in the afternoon, has limited schooling, and the excuse for not helping, aside being tired, is that it is the younger brother whom is cut out for manual labor. Repo - reality check, son. You will likely be doing manual labor for a great while - not understanding this might have a lot to do with you living with your family instead of New York and not being able to find work. Go get a construction job in NYC before you miss Quinceanera season 2014.

^Yeah, I should have specified down with big tank water heaters. The one that was here before basically took up a third of the laundry room, so it had to go. Do love that tankless system, though. Well worth the money. And plus, since ours is gas, we can shower if the power goes out. Being clean makes sitting in the dark better. :D

Ours is electric, but it wouldn't matter as our water is electric too.

Although I'm guessing your area has a lot more experience with ice and its power-killing abilities, unlike down here where we've never quite figured it out.

We lose power about once a month, usually for only an hour or two, occasionally longer, maybe twice a year the conditions are too bad and they can't get to it for 12-24 hours. It's important to have a wood stove option and your sump and septic on battery backup, other than that, it's not much concern.

It's electric. Boogy woogy woogy.

Smile: The true test of anyone's character is when they face difficult times and situations. Somehow my parents prepared me for tough times at a young age and I have always looked as tough times as an opportunity to learn about myself, and the circumstances that surround me.

Not trying to be prophetic, but the saying should not read "When the going gets tough, the tough gets going" rather "Shit happens, learn from it".

More than half of this thread is Ticked rather than Smile (honestly I just made that up for the sake of it) so make sure you take at least something away for you to think about and learn from when life throws you a curveball.

I've learned that I should never trust REPO to move a hot water heater, even after drinking Baja Blast.
