Happy for you. Really happy!

Sounds like you have a lot of life changing dishes on your plate, which is exciting and all kinds of great.

:( A close friend of my girlfriend and I passed away last night. We don't have many details, but we're thinking it was an overdose, as she was a recovering heroin addict.

She was 23 years old.

Last night was rough, basically a ton of crying and snot. She took the day off and is trying to arrange travel plans to go to the funeral a few states away. I'm sitting here at work, staring at the computer, numb. I just don't know what to do. Just one of those latent "why didn't I talk to her more, maybe I could have helped, wow I'm a shitty friend" things. I know this isn't true, but the thoughts tend to creep in.

I've dealt with a good amount of death (family, friends, friends' family, etc.), but 1) never someone this young and 2) it never gets easier (not that I expect it to).

Sorry to hear that, catnip. I've actually known a few people from where I'm from that have died young.

It's always hard to think of anything appropriate to say in situations like that. You have my sympathies.

Thanks guys. Yeah, this is pretty uncharted territory for me - Haven't experienced someone this young and this close to me dying before. It... Yeah. I'm gonna let grief run its course, then do what I can to improve my own life and the lives of those around me. Use this shit situation as impetus to make some decisions I should've made a while ago.

Just threw out an almost-full pack of cigarettes. I think this is a good time for my gf and I to be done with that shit.

And Apple, yeah, for sure. When I was trying to console my gf yesterday, it was just like... there's nothing to say, it just plain sucks

Went out a little while ago to follow up on some job opportunities, and popped into the only two places that were already open (most of the places I applied to are restaurants and they mostly don't do breakfast) and what did I spy but:

:D :o :D MTDEW Baja Blast, formerly a Taco Bell exclusive, in the soft drink case past the produce section. Don't know if anyone else has it (I think Red Drum might have it since I remember telling the guy working there about it and he said he'd ask the person who delivers the Pepsi products about it).

Now if only I had a buck eighty ($1.69 before taxes).

Good for you. The sooner you quit the easier it is. My brother and his girlfriend are young and they've talked about quitting. My mom's 48 and she's been smoking for literally more than half her whole life so if she tries to quit it's gonna be hell.

few things:

1) REPO Man - you just keep on doin' you, homie. you are perfect. never change.

2) AppleQ - super glad you're back, super happy for your impending marriage and very happy that you likely feel "comfortable in your own skin." a friend of mine (who lives in texas, actually) just came out as transgender, but s/he was married at the time, so i'm not sure how that will affect them in the future. but i can say that i know she is 100% happier after coming out. kudos, props, and well-wishes from indianapolis.

3) catnip - i've had two friends die this year to heroin overdoses. you and your girlfriend definitely have my sympathies. it is not an easy thing to go through, and you're left with a lot of questions that will never get answered. i think that using the time to curtail your own addictions (like smoking) is healthy and therapeutic.

i've been feeling pretty good lately, despite being very broke and very stressed out. i just finished my second semester of college after returning from a 10 year hiatus. i just deleted my facebook since i started to see it as more of a crutch and a hindrance to productivity rather than a tool for social interaction. i started running in the mornings and working out regularly and i feel better than i have in a really long time. lots of changes but i think they're all positive.

i don't know exactly where i'm going with that, but i've been feeling very appreciative lately and i want you guys to know that i really enjoy the time i spend on this forum. you guys and gals are great!
