saturn cd drive not spinning

Post by grittykitty »

saturn was working fine yesterday, but today the cd drive stopped spinning. i get no boot up animation, goes straight to the bios screen, green cubes, and "checking disc format" doesn't go away. the wires are still connected firmly to the modchip, ribbon cable seems nice and tight on both ends. any suggestions?

update: unplugged the modchip and put the ribbon cable back to it's factory-shipped place and original games worked fine, so the chip is the problem. i'll try to resolder the connections

update 2: i resoldered the connections and still the same problem. looks like the chip went kaput

Have the same problem. Not using it about a month and then the two days ago the disc was not spinning, tried, tried, went to sleep.... tried it the next day same thing... then it started spinning real fast and when I turned it off it still was spinning it seemed like it wasnt gonna stop.

So next try it was not spinning again so I gave up and was gonna open it. Gave it one last last try, powered it up and its working now. This is my first saturn bought it on ebay about a year ago and installed the modchip. Is the motor dying? or could it be the modchip no connected properly?

Try filing your chip edge connector down slightly with a nail clipper file since the chip may not be seated all the way down firmly into the motherboard. Also recheck the power wire connection to where it goes to the 5va side of the power supply.
