Well this makes sense. Kind of.
When Disney and Marvel tied the knot, Sony was able to keep Spider-man, Fox was able to keep the X-Men, but they both lost merchandising rights. To sweeten the deal, Disney decided to not push those toy lines. Well, maybe "sweeten" isn't the best word, but it does seem like a bit of a "screw off" to Sony and Fox.
We are living in a world where a Captain America movie launched in April is beating a Spider-Man film launched in May. To me, that's some wild weird crazy stuff.
Webb's Spider-Man might be around for a while. Insiders say that we'll get a Sinister Six movie, sometime, but 3 will focus on Kraven.
For those not in the know, Kraven was featured in one of the most controversial and shocking comics of its time and remains a classic. Plus, Kraven is full of action, which is severely lacking in ASM2 (Seriously, there are only two action sequences, and the rest is Spidey doing video-gamey stuff and swinging around. I'd rather watch him rescue puppies than see him swing thru tubes).
And if anyone is wondering why Fox's X-Men are in a Sony film, the answer is Webb owned Fox a favor. How he paid it off this was is weird though.

Well, the fact the hero's ship has breasts is... interesting.Ack wrote:The spaceships are interesting...
The movie was enjoyable enough when I was a kid. I'm not sure if watching it now would be enjoyable enough as a B movie, or if I should just keep my rose colored glasses on.

Can't make up my mind if I want to see Spider man 2 or Captain America. I thought the Captain America series sucked, how interesting could a movie about a man with a shield be? But if IMDB gives it an 8.2/10 it must be Oscar worthy.
Super-hero movies are so successful that they are rebooting within the same decade. Compare that to Django that was released in the 60's .
2000's will be remembered for the Super-Hero movies just like the 80's were for action movies and 90's for sitcoms.

People remember the 90s for Sitcoms?
Captain America 2 is the superior (by twenty miles) movie between it and Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The new Django isn't really much of a reboot though, as much as a reference. The original has pretty much nothing to do with slavery, and there isn't a scene with a coffin and a machinegun in the new one, so they aren't really comparable.RCBH928 wrote: Super-hero movies are so successful that they are rebooting within the same decade. Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I always liked that the spaceship had boobs. It's a classic good-bad movie like many attempts to ride the wake of Star Wars.Ack wrote:
Ah, cheesy Star Wars rip offs. Roger Corman didn't do too bad with Battle Beyond the Stars, though it suffers from a few key points: low budget, sometimes hammy acting, a cinematographer who learned a few lessons from Star Wars but not enough, awful extras running around, terrible editing, and a script that feels more like it is moving through a string of five minute-long vignettes. If there were just ten more minutes of filler linking scenes together, I'd argue it would be a much better movie. Just show characters walking away or entering rooms, something!
Anyway, there is still a lot to like about the film. The spaceships are interesting, the characters are likeable, and the creature designs range from crap to pretty cool to Sybil Danning. Both George Peppard and Robert Vaughn do wonderful jobs, and Earl Boen's not bad either. And of course John Saxon as the villain gives a fun performance, even if it's obvious that his arm is stuffed under his shirt.
As for the plot, well... Battle Beyond the Stars is basically what happens when Roger Corman rips off Star Wars as an outer space clone of The Magnificent Seven/Seven Samurai...with Sybil Danning dressed as a Valkyrie. Woof.
It is crazy isn't it? Growing up my favorite comic was Iron Man so I trended more towards the Avengers related characters. However everything was all about Spider-Man and the X-Men.Luke wrote:Well this makes sense. Kind of.

Now it's like my universe has flip-flopped and I think that says a lot about how successful Marvel Studios has been at crafting the "cinematic universe."
I really enjoyed the new Captain America. It really felt like a movie that added to the larger story and wasn't just filler in the midst of Avengers 2. They managed to make a film that was a bit darker and more serious than other Marvel films without sacrificing the comic-book feel. I didn't go to see the new Spider-Man and reviews have sort of confirmed the concerns I had with the trailers.

Its not?Cronozilla wrote:People remember the 90s for Sitcoms?
Any way, I decided to watch Spider-man 2 after a friend said Captain America was "not bad" , and this is the kind of guy who gets excited over Hunger Games and Paranormal activity . Was not disappointed but it was cheesy, its better than the first. Now that everyone here highly recommends Captain America, I regret not going to that flick.

Will Catnip grow Wings to survive an encounter with Perfect Strangers? Will Forlorn ever comes to terms with Living Single? Will Luke live his dream of becoming the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air? Will Ds and Cybill ever come to terms with the fact that I'm Mad About You, Murphy Brown, whenever I'm Hangin' with Mr. Cooper while performing Home Improvement for The Nanny? Important Family Matters with a Full House will be decided in Night Court on the 3rd Rock from the Sun in which we live our California Dreams of being Saved by the Bell! Just Shoot Me, Roseanne!
