brand new 3.5" Hard Drive , can you scan it for errors ?

Post by s8n »

hi guys , when i buy 3.5" Hard Drives i usually go in store to pick them up because im worried any hard knocks during shipping will cause hardware errors.

i was wondering if say i were to buy a Hard Drive from the same retailer but get it shipped to me is there some sort of software where i can scan it for hardware errors when i get it ?

Could also use a utility that writes zeros since the whole point of them is to write data across the entire drive.

If you want to give a drive a good testing and have it make passes across all sections of it, DBAN, or Darik's Boot & Nuke, should take care of that for you. Its main use is to completely wipe a drive clean, but it also has a multi-pass option.

Built into Windows man. Go to My Computer/Computer, right click n the drive, properties, tools tab, check now, check off scan and attempt to fix bad sectors. There will be more thorough programs out there, but that one is right there built in.
