It's open, you can re-vote.bryan_65 wrote:Well shit, I just read the poll as ''What SHOULD we allow in the marketplace''.I accidentally picked the only 3 I though SHOULD be allowed.
Haven't read the other post yet but wanted to let that be know. It was a long hot day at work.

I read the thread wrong, and voted incorrectly.

there's a contradiction between what the poll asks and what the thread title asks, which is probably why people are voting incorrectly.Forlorn Drifter wrote:I read the thread wrong, and voted incorrectly.
As it is currently worded, I can't vote for anything since I am ok with everything, given that people are upfront about what they are selling.
Re: Reproductions: What is our community ok with?
i am in favor of repros for any non-us released game. building a good collection actually. i don't see the need in repros of japan exclusives that are already in english, but i don't think those are a big deal. i personally won't buy anything that is a repro of any game that already has a us release like a Hagane or Earthbound.
that being said, the argument and question at hand isn't, "how do i feel about them" it's "what should racketboy allow or disallow" which it ultimately all just comes down to liability which is stated as such in the BST Rules: It should be noted that anybody buying, selling, or trading, is doing so at their own risk. so as i see it, problem solved... yes it's a gray area at best, but anyone buying or selling is taking a risk that there could be consequences like what happened to jjrepro over on NintendoAge (someone reported their repro sales to PayPal, who then shut down their account as they have a firm zero tolerance policy about such things).

As stated before (less seriously), this. It sounds like a pita to do so, especially because I don't have a torx screwdriver for any cart type, but luckily, I've not dealt with this... Yet.Opa Opa wrote:I spoke with ten or more sellers before I got to open a cart. Some people (nintendoage) even refused to open the cart. I don't wish this frustration on anyone. The fewer repros the better for expensive titles.
I'll agree with the sentiment that we shouldn't devolve to a bootleg trading site, but I don't think we're going down a slippery slope by allowing repros and boots at the current rate.

If you have the bit it takes a minute at most to open, snap a picture of the board, and put back together. I can understand if you're selling 100 carts, but it isn't like most people have 100+ $50 and up carts that people might be nervous about. But then it seems that some people (not directing that at people here) can't even do minimal cleaning of things before trying to sell them and don't always test either.

security bits cost what? $3 shipped? if your dealing with expensive carts you have no excuse not to own one.

I'm not sure what I think about this, but morally I consider it similar to plagiarism.
I do not think it is cool to sell something that you didn't create (or pay the creator for) and sell it for a profit. If you didn't put the work into either: a)programming the game, b)translating the game, or c)pay the person who did the programming then you shouldn't sell it and make a profit. Isn't that what everyone who distributes free software puts in the "readme" file?
We can sell retail, or even import, games because the publisher and/or a store set an original price which someone paid before it was posted in a B/S/T thread.
With that being said, I have considered buying repros of hard to find games but never pulled the trigger on the deal. So, while I consider it kind of wrong I have also considered buying them to pay for the work put into putting the game onto a cart.

I have always considered it to be paying for the service of the repro and the physical item. The roms are freely passed around. Perhaps a fine line to be sure.SpaceBooger wrote:I'm not sure what I think about this, but morally I consider it similar to plagiarism.
