Ultimate NES replacement?

@bmoc - your RGB nes number is a couple years old. A guy on AA does them for $270 and that's w/him doing the work and advertising a service. There are guys on neo that do them closer to $225-250. If you are able to do it yourself you're looking at $85 and a working console - so about $110. Not sure where the $300-400 is coming from.

Well of course there will be profit. But these are going to be hand made and modded systems that take a bit of time and won't be sitting on WalMart shelves. It wouldnt be worth their while to get $50 or even $100 over materials cost per unit. They won't be selling in bulk, so the price inflates accordingly. Similar to many other higher end luxury goods.

Too much for me for what it is and does, and I also wouldnt pay more than 200-250 for something that just plays NES/FC carts. But I can appreciate it for what it is and see the cost and labor behind it

Make no mistake, I'm not naive about what it takes and costs for such an endeavor and the profits you need to make it worth your while (which is subjective, of course). I think it's awesome that they're doing this. Seriously, bravo. I'm a little jealous, I wish I had the time and money for such projects. I just feel like they might have been able to make it a little cheaper without sacrificing any quality.

Is it awesome that the case is aluminum? Yes, of course it is! But if it meant something more affordable, I would have been just fine with plastic. Is it awesome that there's four controller ports? Yes, it looks sick! But how many of us will take advantage of it? How many of us would be fine with just two controller ports and have to use a Four Score for the rare occasion (if ever) of a 4-player NES gaming session?

Clearly you don't do many two player sessions of Smash TV. The four ports are essential to properly play that game.

In fact, me personally, I rarely have even two controllers plugged into my NES.

That's a business idea for you; the stripped down NES that cuts out the things people don't need but the core is still high quality NES goodness.
