Greetings,
We are seeing more and more reproductions in our marketplace, other forums, and of course ebay. There is a concern amongst some for various reasons.
Before implementing rules - we'd like to hear what the community thinks about repros and the like.
Please let us know which things flooding the markets you feel should not be allowed on our forum. To be clear - check items you think SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED.
The following are poll options, you may select as many as you like:
Reproductions of JP / PAL only games that require translation - EX: Terranigma
Reproductions of JP / PAL only games that do not require translation - EX: Undercover Cops
Reproductions of any game that is expensive - EX: MUSHA
Homebrews - EX: Chunkout
Hacks of released games - EX: Super Mario Dinosaur Island
Reproductions of previously unreleased games - EX: Starfox 2
100-in-1's, etc - EX: 150-in-1 gameboy bootleg

All for keeping reproductions in the marketplace, as long as they're advertised as such.

This, i would seriously take a repro Earthbound as long as it played the same as the original and was clearly marked as a repro.JoeAwesome wrote:All for keeping reproductions in the marketplace, as long as they're advertised as such.
Paying WAYYY under market value of course, like sub $50.

well Terrinigma doesn't require a reproduction as it realeased in english in PAL only but you cannot play the original game on a US or JP SNES due to the region lock. so in order to play the game in english you would have to
A. buy the original PAL cart and a PAL SNES and use it on a TV that is capable of 50hz (not many CRT's in the US are aside from PVMs)
B. Buy a repro cart of it
C. Emulate
I guess you could add to the poll should everdrives be allowed on the BST? I say why not?

Sorry to mess up your poll, but shouldn't there be an option for all are ok?
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

Concerns over repros being passed off as legitimate games or prototypes. Also concerns over potential liability for the website if copyright holders for a particular game discover repros of said game are being sold here, particularly in cases where that copyright is actively being used, such as a game that is available on PSN, Xbox Live, or Nintendo eShop.dsheinem wrote:I'd like to know the reasons.mjmjr25 wrote: There is a concern amongst some for various reasons.

I agree, it's all fine in my opinion. Most people here emulate old games anyway, so I don't see much of a difference.Stark wrote:Sorry to mess up your poll, but shouldn't there be an option for all are ok?

So I guess I am fine with them as long as they are clearly, easily discernible as repros, whatever titles they may be.Ack wrote:Concerns over repros being passed off as legitimate games or prototypes. For now, the liability issue seems like a red herring: I'd be interested to see/read about a case where a copyright holder ever went after any retrogaming website for people selling and trading repros on a forum. Is there any actual, documented reason to be nervous about this?
