I wonder if retro-gaming kids feel like their parents are putting them on the cheap stuff, making them angry and embarrassed in front of their friends or do they see it as a privilege . I guess we all know the feeling of owning the old toy or the cheap mimics.

My children are 2 and 5; so, I don't think that they really care. Finally - and from what I have observed - kids today are not as obsessed with having the "same" toys as they were during my generation. Certainly, there are trendy items that are popular with lots of children, but where I live (which, admittedly, is pretty Bohemian), children prize unique toys and entertainment, much of which is older. (Seriously, my daughter and her friends are all currently obsessed with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - which is almost 20 years old now - since it is available for streaming on Netflix.)
