Don't forget the NGCD has a...er...uh...try before you buy ability for the more exspensive titles. If you know what I mean
you mean MAME ? or burning NGCD games ?
ive chosen to buy NGCD games instead of burning them as ive read the NGCD lasers hate the dyes used in CD-R and suicide themselves.
and ive been using Neo Geo emulators since 1999 , before that i was playing the actual hardware in the Arcades from 1990 to about 1996
i remember in 1996 going to get some change to play Metal Slug and on the way to the counter at the Arcades i saw a credit in Point Blank and pressed start.
literally 2 seconds later 2 men pushed me to the front of the venue and flashed a badge , they were cops undercover looking for dealers as they said.
one cop asked me questions and the other had his hands in my pockets and cigarette packet........they found nothing
Hey, any of you guys play Pocket Tennis Color on the NGPC? I've been getting into it, and I'm wondering what all of the trophies are. After discovering I could change the date on the NGPC to access more tournaments, I've picked up 7 trophies, but how many are there and when are they available?
Finally got a coincell battery for my Pocket and played some Sonic, seems really true to a Sonic game, which means I think it's just ok. Controls on the NGPC are super sick though, love the feel of it.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.
On the NGPC front is the UK version of Faselei! still valuable? I have had a lot presented to me that has it, and if I can use it to recoop some of the price it will be alot more palatable.
Edit:
Disregard, apparently it just had a UK label on it, and it is the Japanese version.

I'd really like to see Brad pick up a CMVS. I know the cost scares him, but y'all can attest, it isn't hard to get back out what you put in regarding teh neo.
Who'd be interested? It'd be just like the SotM, but w/ fighters, 1 credit, default settings, highest score. Maybe...prizes?!
Missed this at the bottom of the page, but was conveeeeeniently pointed in the proper direction.
I'd... be in I suppose. Sadly with my wallet I'd probably have to play mostly on my NGCD (unless the illustrious Mr Mock can find us cheap carts) since I think I only have a coupele Final Fight carts... and that means I would endure those dreadful load times, but I think it'd still be fun.
I will lose. Miserably. We've broken out SS2 on my buddy's gold standup recently and I ALWAYS get my ass kicked. But it'd be fun nonetheless. I'm in.
hmm, I missed the part about Mike talking about wanting me to get into CMVS. So I'll elaborate a bit, though I'm sure I've said most of this to him via PM/email in the past...
Price - is of course part of the issue. But it's not just "oh man these are expensive." I should point out that I've never spent triple digits on a game in my life. I did spend $90 on Ibara once. And I didn't even end up liking it all that much. So I spent $90, and then let it sit on my shelf for over a year - because I had spent so much on it - before deciding I really should let it go. I'm def nervous that knowing myself, that spending a lot on a single game could result in me having a shelf of games I don't like but I don't want to get rid of either because they had cost me so much.
There's also the other thing, that most dudes in a NG collecting thread aren't gonna like me talking about. But, a lot of NG games are on PSN and Steam now. They're like $6. And they have online multiplayer. When I do the math, it's like "ok, I love Steam, and I can get a lot of these games for about $5 and then play them online with others who are willing to make that big $5 investment.... or I can buy a new console for a few hundred and a card for maybe another hundred and not be able to play it online..."
Speaking of carts, that's something else. I can't really explain this well, but for some odd reason when it comes to consoles, I don't really like carts. As a guy who grew up with 2600, NES, SMS, Genesis, SNES, you'd think that I'd be really nostalgic about carts. But I'm just not. For whatever reason, I just really like collecting CD based games more than cart based games. I mean, I get w/ NGPC but portables are kind of different. But as far as what I want to see displayed on a shelf - this is going to blow some minds - I'd rather see NGCD games than MVS carts. Of course that would be a poor decision gaming-wise.
And when it comes to displaying MVS carts, here's another issue I'd have. They're just carts. I mean yeah I could go the route of custom art and all, but that means for each cart I'd buy - already at a price I'm not crazy about spending - I'd then have to buy or make additional custom art. It's another added expense, or added labor. Not super appealing to me.
There's also this thing - it may seem small - but I love finding games in the wild. With Dreamcast stuff, it's not the MOST common console out there. But I do find games for it each year. Not all the time, but it happens. And it's exciting. On the flip, I've seen one MVS cart in my whole life.
See, once I start thinking about these kinds of things, I realize that I'm really good w/ my collecting habits the way they are now. For physical stuff, I love DC and NGPC stuff. It's a good sized library of games I really enjoy. Outside of that, I'm pretty content w/ Steam and PC stuff in general. Enjoying gaming that way has freed up a lot of my desire to hoard physical stuff, which is perhaps why I'm cool with focusing the physical collection on a single console these days.
Having said all that, I'm not against NG stuff. At all. I love SNK games. But for the most part I think that if I were going to ever get into it myself, it would be a while down the road once we completely fix up our basement. We've got an awesome bar down there, and at some point I'd like to really clean up down there, furnish it better, etc. I could see having an actual cab setup. That seems kind of classy, and fits a bar better than just a TV/console. And if that was the case then I'd not really worry about having artwork as I'd just keep the MVS carts stored away that weren't in use.
Noise get a 161 in 1 multicart, you would still be getting the real experience of playing Neo Geo games on real hardware without emulation, and almost all the best games are on the 161 in 1
