I've recently really gotten into these deep narrative, pick-you-own-story, visual novel type games. I was hoping some of the I could get some recommendations. I already know about Indigo Proficiency and Shadow of Memories.
Kind of off topic but will these games work on Windows 8? Thanks.

LA NOIRE I think is a similar game.
Wolf Among Us which is made by the same guys who did Walking Dead. I also think they are making a Game of Thrones game too.

What about the LucasArts (Fate of Atlantis, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max, etc) and Sierra (Leisure Suit Larry, Space Quest, Quest for Glory, etc) point-n-click adventure games?

9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors for DS is a visual novel that takes its story pretty seriously. I haven't played Heavy Rain or The Walking Dead, but I'd recommend it anyway?
The sequel, Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward is good too, but not quite as good, and playing the first one helps make sense of some things.

Tell Tails Back to the Future game is well worth a play.

Maybe a stretch and not for everyone lol... but Deadly Premonition?
Also Alan Wake is a lot more action oriented, but was still pretty cool with the episodes and such. I really enjoyed it.
