If I have a Wii, do I really need a GameCube?

If I have a Wii, do I really need a GameCube?

Post by REPO Man »

I'm going up to Play N Trade sometime in the next couple of days and I'm trading some stuff in.

Now, I have a GameCube, jet black, with a GameBoy Player. The system still works, and only has your typical cosmetic wear and tear (i.e. the gray thing on the front where the control ports are has dulled).

And I have a gr8 deal of GameCube games, but I also have a Nintendo Wii. I've also got a DS Lite and a GBA SP, so I don't really need the GameBoy Player anymore. And besides, there's that third-party GBP-type device that still works with the Wii.

But... I heard that some games have some slight problems. One person had a problem with double-tapping the Y button when playing X-Men Legends 2 (though I'm gonna get the Xbox version, as opposed to the GCN version), and another person had issues with the analog stick while playing Geist. And another person had a minor video problem with Mario Tennis, I believe it was.

And JSYK, I have 4 wired 1st-party GameCube controllers (all jet black to match my console) and a WaveBird controller (gray, not silver), and my Wii is connected to my television via composite video (none of the TVs in my house support component video input).

What issues would I have playing GameCube games on the Wii that would make me want to keep my old GameCube?

If you think you'll ever want to play import Gamecube games or use Action Replay then you should keep the Cube. It'll only sell for like 5 USD at best though. Why even bother?

Honestly I haven't had any problems with my Wii using my GC games. I use wired controllers with extensions. However, I do want to pick up a GC at some point just to have. If you're really strapped for cash and they're willing to give you a decent amount of money then you might as well. Otherwise I'd keep it.

If you think that you might regret it later why do it? As long as you have space to store it I would say keep it.

That was me. Never did figure out what was wrong. Activision basically told me it was Nintendo's problem, and vice versa. However, it is the only problem I've ever had with the compatibility...
Comics, RPG's, miniatures, and now retrogaming? I guess its time to learn to go without eating...

They won't give you crap for it, so I say keep it. You have to think of Nintendo products as a long term investment. I think the GBA link cable doesn't work with Wii. So FFCC and 4 player Zelda won't work. I could be wrong on that though.

Just so you know this thing doesn't work at all on the Wii,and barely even works on the Gamecube, for that matter.

I'd say for how little you'd get for it hold on to it for the gameboy player (I've always wanted one of those) and ability to play imports without the disc getting blocked by firmware. I sold mine just before it plummted in price, but I do miss those features a bit.

The GBA link cable works with the wii, that is how we did Zelda Four Swords at Momocon. That is really the main reason I kept mine, PacMan Vs in specific. But now I have two Gamecubes, and two more by the end of the year so I guess I am not the best to talk to about this.
