Anyone playing Demon's Gaze on Vita? I am on the fence about it and wanna know if it's worth the "around" $40 it is fetching on ebay right now. Anything aside from generic ebay and amazon reviews would be appreciated!

I bought it, but it's currently sitting still sealed on my Vita shelf. If I wasn't already playing the glorious Conception II I'd be giving it a go. However, I felt no remorse shelling out $40 for Demon Gaze, given its pedigree and the praise I've seen it receive in trustworthy circles.

Here are a few reviews:

I played a little before getting in over my head on a fixed encounter and not having saved a while and I haven't gone back (I'd rather continue my full run of FFX and X-2 first). It's a dungeon crawler with a variety of race/class combinations with the twist that you can't start off with a full party from the get-go; rather you must pay to expand your party size and then a nominal fee to hire a new adventurer. So you'll start off the game with just two people (out of five total). Also, there's the Demon companion mechanic where you will gain demon companions as part of the story (they're storyline bosses) who can take action during battle (such as healing or doing damage, selected randomly from their skillset) and can provide benefits outside battle (one will let you detect secret walls). You can only equip a limited number of companions and summoning them in battle requires a resource cost (which is only for the demons). If you like first person dungeon crawlers I'd say it's worth a pickup.

Hate replying to my own post but I have a question for the Vita veterans:

What's the best Monster Hunter-like game on the system?

Choices seem to be Toukiden, Ragnarok Odyssey Ace, Soul Sacrifice Delta,....?

Reviews seem all over the place on all these games on the interwebs. Any advice?

Your best bet would be Toukiden I think. It's gotten the best overall aggregate of reviews, and is the closest thing to vanilla Monster Hunter out of those three. Now, if you're a JRPG lover and you like some color and happiness in your gaming, you should go for Ragnarok Odyssey ACE. It's not as "hardcore" feeling as Toukiden, but it has more enemy variety and a lot more pizazz to its environments.

Can't go wrong with either game though. So it boils down to which of these screenshots appeals to you more:

 I'm not sure this is helping. In my head I had kind of narrowed it down to those two as being the leading candidates.

Those screenshots made me want both....

They announced an expanded version of Toukiden for Japan fairly recently and I'm willing to bet it will be released here at some point, so bear that in mind.

The upcoming Freedom Wars would fall into the Monster Hunter category right? I think I'll be trying that game myself.
