Many people still have to deal with that outside of larger metro areas, just perhaps not that particular flavor. Remember Boringsupreze did until he joined the military.

"Slow internet" wasn't a big deal initially, as webpages were designed to accommodate those connections.

I still had dial-up as late as 2008 though, by then it was a pain in the ass.

Yep, satellite internet is the bane of rural living. The speeds are somewhere in between dial-up and DSL, and there's always an extremely low data cap.

Going outside in slippers at 1:00 am to scrape snow off the dish so I can utilize the three hours of un-metered bandwidth allotted in the early morning hours is something I won't soon forget.

Of course it used to be even worse. Remember when AOL and others charged by the minute for use too? I remember someone obsessively doing 'flash sessions' that would just connect long enough to send and receive email and then disconnect to minimize racking up time.

I can't imagine how much money those old MMOs like Neverwinter Nights cost to play...
