Many people still have to deal with that outside of larger metro areas, just perhaps not that particular flavor. Remember Boringsupreze did until he joined the military.J T wrote:Next time you complain about slow internet, just try to remember how things used to be

"Slow internet" wasn't a big deal initially, as webpages were designed to accommodate those connections.
I still had dial-up as late as 2008 though, by then it was a pain in the ass.

Yep, satellite internet is the bane of rural living. The speeds are somewhere in between dial-up and DSL, and there's always an extremely low data cap.Hobie-wan wrote:Many people still have to deal with that outside of larger metro areas, just perhaps not that particular flavor. Going outside in slippers at 1:00 am to scrape snow off the dish so I can utilize the three hours of un-metered bandwidth allotted in the early morning hours is something I won't soon forget.

I don't know about other people, but my "connecting" portion was never that long.J T wrote:Next time you complain about slow internet, just try to remember how things used to be

Of course it used to be even worse. Remember when AOL and others charged by the minute for use too? I remember someone obsessively doing 'flash sessions' that would just connect long enough to send and receive email and then disconnect to minimize racking up time.Ziggy587 wrote:I don't know about other people, but my "connecting" portion was never that long.J T wrote:Next time you complain about slow internet, just try to remember how things used to be
