new Sonic X-Treme video
Re: new Sonic X-Treme video
I would rather have had X-Treme than the crap that was 3D Blast that we DID get.

But the PC and Saturn versions of 3D Blast did give us a rather sexual soundtrack by the great Mr. Jacques.

Cool as a tech demo.
Not cool as an actual game.
Enjoyed the video though

Re: new Sonic X-Treme video
These guys almost had something cool but they just couldn't expand it. makes the original Nights engine that much more impressive. Sonic Team made a 3D flying game work in the same era that also could be played on the ground too. Sure it was on rails while flying but it was fully 3D when on foot.

You know, I wonder if NiGHTS did come out of that tech demo in some form or fashion. The way NiGHTS sometimes changes "direction" in relation to the background seems reminiscent of some of the footage in that video.
Re: new Sonic X-Treme video
One of the early tech demos for this game (not any of the stuff shown here) was running directly on the Nights engine, with all the moving hills in tact. Sonic Team in japan didn't like it one bit and demanded that they don't use the NiGHTS engine for their game. It was just the beginning of this games' many development issues. Look up the history of it and see for yourself, it's not very pretty.marurun wrote:You know, I wonder if NiGHTS did come out of that tech demo in some form or fashion. This video reminded me of those Escher paintings. It also reminded me a lot of Echochrome too.
Also the way Sonic jumps up to that other circular platform and then runs around it to launch himself off reminded me of Galaxy.
It'd be cool to play and watch. It needs a lot more depth to it. It is just a tech-demo after all.
