Really? How much were those games typically going for a few years ago?pierrot wrote:Congrats on starting the Saturn collection.
It really kills me to see the prices people are paying to import common, dollar-bin games, though.
How is your Saturn gaming going?

Not just a couple years ago; now. Those are $1-$5 games CIB, or even NIB in some cases, in Japan. I was just looking at some completed listings, and someone bid $18+ on a Yamatoku auction for SF Zero 2. That's straight crazy.

No kidding....and those prices were actually among the lowest I saw on ebay for those titles. I wanted a copy of Earthworm Jim 2, that seems to be going CIB for $50 which is nuts.
Re: How is your Saturn gaming going?
Earthworm Jim 2 on the Saturn is a legitimately uncommon game, though. $50 for the JP version is still high, but less ridiculous to me, somehow. (80-100% markup vs. 300-2000%)

The US version seems to be going for that price as well.

Re: How is your Saturn gaming going?
Amazon tends to be cheaper than ebay for import Saturn games so don't forget that as resource. For example, Earthworm Jim 2 is about $38 for very good (which is usually mint knowing Japanese games).
Obviously, the best option is to find someone in Japan willing to buy and ship games to you as it ends up being much cheaper. Another option is to use a proxy service and order directly from Amazon Japan and Yahoo auctions, which even after fees can be much cheaper than ebay or Amazon US. I remember I grabbed Trip World GB for about $70 shipped from Japan using a proxy. I have never seen that game for less than $100... so it can be a good option as well.

haha I know I had Pierre (Toktugul) pick me up a bunch of Saturn Games off Amazon.jp for me and many of them were literally 1 single yen which is about a penny. And they were good games too and complete in good shape! Like Gex and Steep Slope Sliders, of course you had to pay shipping on them which was about $3 but it is so odd that they price games for pretty much for free. I guess in Japan space is so limited they just want those games out of their stores just pay shipping, but those same games go for $10-$15 on ebay + shipping.pierrot wrote:Congrats on starting the Saturn collection.

I think I ordered about 10 games from Toktogul when I had the opportunity. I wish I had purchased more but I had to space it out. It really is the best way to do it though.ninjainspandex wrote:haha I know I had Pierre (Toktugul) pick me up a bunch of Saturn Games off Amazon.jp for me and many of them were literally 1 single yen which is about a penny. Oh yea, I forgot to mention that I did receive these guys in the mail today. My Saturn is patiently waiting to output in RGB.

I am waiting for the XRGB mini in the mail next. I will be a part of the XRGB mini club soon!

Re: How is your Saturn gaming going?
there are other people who will act as a proxy and buy stuff for you off amazon.jp for a small fee. Rancor from Shmups.com does it for me all the time, I believe Ganjinpunch does it as well. I rarely buy Saturn imports off ebay unless I get lucky with a cheeky bid, like one time Salamander Deluxe Pack had an auction starting at $30 and I one it at that price because no one else bidded on it, not sure why.
Speaking of Ebay, what the hell happened to the price of Rampage World Tour? For the longest time it was a cheap game with plentiful BIN prices of $20 and then recently I had the urge to play the Saturn version since I used to love the N64 version as a kid, only to find out the BIN prices are $40+. Fortunately I finally won an auction of it for $20.
