Yeah, I never was able to progress far in that because I didn't power up my Minwu when I played the GBA version (I just killed off everyone but Maria and cranked up her stats). I've got a PSP version playthrough started that is trying to at least get Minwu up so that the opening of the post game dungeon isn't so brutal.

Was it made significantly easier like part I was?

I wouldn't say it was made significantly easier. It probably was easier if you didn't try to abuse the system for power stats, but it was harder to massively power your characters (no select cancel trick, attacking yourself didn't help stats).

No way! So the "cheats" don't work? If the game is properly balanced I guess I won't need to be clever about leveling anyway though...

That is my problem. Minwu in my game is just way to weak to defend himself, and there is no good place to level him up.

Yeah, if you didn't take the time to buff up some HP and his evasion you probably won't be able to get his evasion high enough in the post game dungeon in combat before enemies can kill you.

Sadly, that is a lesson I learned the hard way...

All I know about FFII is that apparently spamming the toad magic is probably the easiest way to beat the game. You'll just need to grind it up a bit early on.

It's one of the easiest JRPG's in general.

Most FF's are honestly. I still love them for other reasons though.

Spamming Berserk works really well too. Beat the final boss in about 4 turns.

After threatening to do so for several weeks I have finally begun to play Final Fantasy II on the GBA. I like this port a lot, it seems as if they fixed many of the issues present in the older versions.

I do miss the cutscenes though. Maria was a total babe on the PlayStation:
