How many virtual console games have you purchased.....

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

For convenience, my friend. Many of us are Americans and, therefore, lazy. Example: I own a Dreamcast and have a CD-R with NesterDC and roms. This didn't change my decision to purchase Megaman 2 (and 3) recently for the VC. I admit that it's wasteful. But it's a helluva a lot more comfortable to play on the couch with the Wiimote instead of on the floor chained to a console. To me it was worth the $5.

As for my own VC collection... here's what I can think of off the top of my head:

Super Mario Bros, Sonic 2, Super Metroid, Secret of Mana, Paper Mario, Mario Kart 64, Kirby (NES), Shining Force II, Gunstar Heroes, Dr Mario RX, Megaman 2, 3, and 9.

Go TG-16!

Post by timewarpgamer »

INHO, the Wii VC is an awesome concept that has been executed at about a C+/B- level of competence. Anyway, here's what my brother and I have downloaded:

Super Mario 64 (N64) -- Still amazing after all these years
Castlevania (NES) -- Wait for the release of III
Gradius III (SNES) -- R-Type III would have been a better call
Zelda: Link to the Past (SNES) -- One of the best Zeldas ever
Top Hunter (Neo Geo) -- A quirky underrated run 'n gun
Castlevania IV (SNES) -- Sweet, but give us Dracula X for the TG-CD already!
Sin & Punishement (N64) -- Best import available!
Bomberman '93 (TG-16) -- One of the greatest Bombermans
Fatal Fury (Neo Geo) -- So primitive, where are the defining Neo Geo fighters?

Bottom line on the VC: TG-16 offers the best value. Period. 600 points! Thats only 100 more than for NES and the top titles look just as 16-bit as Genesis offerings (which are 200 points more), and some of them even rival SNES graphics. Not to mention the fact that buying the physical TG-16 games and the necessary hardware is way more expensive than for the SNES and Genesis. So you're actually getting much better value for virtual TG-16 titles than you are the others.

I'm sick of seeing the top VC downloads dominated my Nintendo games. Give the TG-16 a try. You won't be disappointed. And--beware a shameless plug is coming--you can find a complete list of recommended VD downloads at my site (check the sig block).

Thanks, yeah, this is the case, you can re-download for free, it's just a bit of a hastle - I really want all the games i've paid for there and playable, like with DLC on the PS3 or 360 - there are constant internet rumours that there will be an update to allow games to be directly playable from SD card, but this is not the case at the moment - you can transfer to and from SD card, and dowload directly to SD card, but the useable memory remains limited to 512 MB or whatever...

I get a lot of free Wii points to blow on downloadable games so I've bought a lot of Virtual console games and WiiWare over the last year or so. Honestly most of these games run better through emulation so I rarely play the VC versions. I mostly keep a bunch installed for when company comes over.

Obviously not all of these are installed atm due to the limited internal memory;

Mega Man 9 (with all downloadable content)
Art Style: ORBIENT
Bomberman Blast
Bomberman '93
Galaga '90
Bubble Bobble Wii
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King
Tetris Party
World of Goo
The Legend of Zelda
Super Mario Bros.
Kid Icarus
Kirby's Adventure
Castlevania
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
Metroid
Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos
Bubble Bobble
Mega Man
Mega Man 2
Mega Man 3
Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
Super Mario Bros. 3
F-Zero
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Super Mario 64
Mario Kart 64
Paper Mario
Star Fox 64
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
Alex Kidd in Miracle World
Splatterhouse
Samurai Shodown
The King of Fighters '94
Sonic 1
Sonic 2
Sonic 3
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
ToeJam & Earl
Ecco the Dolphin
Altered Beast
Space Invaders Get Even
Strong Bad eps 1 - 5

I *think* that is everything.

^^^ Alright for some...

If you've got that many free points, or even if you have to pay like the rest of us, I can thoroughly recommend Star Soldier R for 5 minutes of shooting goodness :)

Right now I'm stuck in Mega Man 9 though...currently trying to find ways to speed up my time attacks...I'm way down the leaderboards. :(

No idea exactly how many. Although I'm up to my third page on the Wii menu.

Because some of us are willing to pay money to the copyright holders of classic games even many years after their release.

The second-hand market doesn't pay developers for their work (some will argue it has a related financial impact, but it's a dubious argument at best). Even though I do collect second-hand games, I enjoy paying for retro games as I know it's a more direct way to finance developers for the kinds of games I enjoy playing. I have no interest in modern, 3D games, and willingly pay for older style 2D games regardless of their release date.
