Well yeah but right now stuff is done, she just thinks it's childish...apparently she's never seen CoD or Halo(both of which are part of a genre I will never play)Luke wrote: Go out of your way to help out Moms before playing games. Your Mom might say "childish" but what she's thinking is "couldn't he be spending his time more productively?". If you ask to help out and she has nothing for you to do, just say "in that case I'm going to play a game for a while" and you get a free pass. And if she does have something for you to do, do it, and then you get a free pass. Win win.
I do this with my wife too. It let's her know I care and want to help out, but if there's nothing to do, then I have an excuse to play da vidja gamez. But yeah, empty the dishwasher, vacuum and dust the house, mow the grass, clean the appliances, do a load of laundry...do something to pitch in before getting glued to the screen.

Not sure if you are picking up what I'm dropping. Make an effort to ask.darsparx wrote: Well yeah but right now stuff is done, she just thinks it's childish.
"Need any help around the house?" goes for miles.

I entirely underestimated how big the job was. Spent a solid 3 hours mowing and still have about 200 square feet to finish up tomorrow on a hillside. Best thing is I'm using a push mower without self propel

I don't know why but I really enjoy the NES. It's been awhile since I've been able to sit down and play a game, but I can play through a whole game for 1-2 hours and enjoy it my NES. I never had one growing up or even played one besides emulators years ago. I just beat Mario 3 and was going to play Zelda next but decided on TMNT 2. I can't play anything without my Game Genie because it grips the cartridge connector so tightly that it doesn't glitch out anymore. It's totally unplayable after a few minutes without it. I also use it for infinite lives and such.
My next game is going to be Zelda then Metroid.
EDIT: I can't figure out how to get past the first screen, enemies just stop appearing and I can't go anywhere. Time for Zelda then.

It has scretched the pins out as the board is a little thicker than a cart. It makes the NES blinkies worse than they would normally be and messed things up like the Gameshark does on a Saturn slot.. You'll need to open up the system and bend the connector pins down to fix it.nullxor wrote: I can't play anything without my Game Genie because it grips the cartridge connector so tightly that it doesn't glitch out anymore.

Yeah I know that, that's why I'm using the genie. The console was already like this when I bought it. I disabled the lockout chip so I just have to keep pressing the power button over and over again while moving the cartridge until it makes contact. I'll have to do what you said soon but for now the Genie works.

Or you could spend the $10 on a new connector. It's a really simple replacement to make.

I'm going to echo Popo's sentiments regarding the connector. search ebay for "72-pin connector" and you will see many for sale. I installed one in my NES with nothing more than a Phillips head screwdriver. I'm not a modder by any means, but the whole process took me less than twenty minutes. Clean the cartridges after you install a new 72-pin connector so you don't "put a dirty letter in a clean envelope" so to speak. You'll find that your NES plays like new.nullxor wrote:Yeah I know that, that's why I'm using the genie. The console was already like this when I bought it. Don't think there's a right emoji - I went my with school the other day to the Museum of Tolerance which is basically a museum about the Jewish Holocaust. I've read many books and watched plenty of doc's on the Holocaust and WW2 but the museum put it in a personal context. They had a mock gas chamber and various interactive physical exhibits. We also got the opportunity to talk to a survivor. It took something that felt somewhat foreign and made it strike closer to home.
- I almost overslept for the trip.
