I have trouble believing anything is better than Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

I also have never watched all of The Breakfast Club. In fact I generally didn't watch a lot of the big "teen" movies of the decade, so I've never seen Say Anything, 16 Candles, One Crazy Summer, Some Kind of Wonderful, Pretty in Pink, etc...

...but then I was way too busy watching Back to the Future, Gremlins, Goonies, everything starring Schwarzenegger, Robocop, Ghostbusters, Predator, Aliens, the Indiana Jones films, UHF, Batman, Die Hard, Trading Places, Police Academy, Critters, Bladerunner, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, ...I watched a lot of action, horror, and science fiction in the 1980s. And comedies. I did watch a lot of comedies.

The "Teen" movies rock something hard.

The "teen" movies are, IMO, some of the wittiest comedies of the era (especially the ones that Hughes scripted, such as The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, etc.)

Like Ack, I spent the 80s with sci-fi, action, etc. I wasn't the age of the kids in the teen movies of the era anyway. I saw Bueller around the time it came out, but that was really it of the Hughes films for me back when they were actually coming out.

In the 90s and early 2000s though, once I was in my late teens and early 20s and I started becoming more of a film snob connoisseur, I watched much of the Hughes oeuvre and it quickly cemented itself as one of the finest in all of film history.

Seriously. The man wrote all of the Home Alone films Flubber, and Maid in Manhattan. Let me say that again...MAID IN F*CKING MANHATTAN. If that does not inspire you to see all of his movies immediately, I don't know what will.

You can unmark the snob part, we all know that we are.

Anyway, I also did the same thing that DS did as film tastes become more "sophisticated," but I branched out in an entirely different manner, so unfortunately Hughes filmography has remained largely on my To See list. I'll get around to it eventually, but it may be a while. There's a lot of genres that I love that I still want to pick through the bones of and a lot of different nations with flourishing film industries that I need to spend more time with! Bollywood in particular is one that I've not yet taken a real stab at, as my interests have tended to be further east.

Oh, and for the record, I have seen Maid in Manhattan.

You must see Pyaasa. It is one of the most beautiful and haunting films I have ever seen, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

It was on TV and I just said "ah, what the fuck" and then barely paid attention:

AMERICAN HUSTLE

I love this movie, but don't think it warranted Oscar nominations. It is great, but it is so damned forced when it didn't have to be. Story is great, cast is great, delivery is so so.

As much as I enjoy AMERICAN HUSTLE, here's my beef: If the movie had a laugh track, I wouldn't notice. The funny doesn't need to be thrust upon me, I can pick up on humor. Some parts in the movie is almost like the movie is trying to remind you "Hey you! This is funny!".
