This is not true at all.
Plenty of folks don't have access to original hardware due to price, scarcity, whatever. There's no "requirement" to being a retro gamer other than playing retro games. Doesn't matter whether you own 10,000 games or 0.
It depends on the game. I don't think playing Mario on a touch screen feels anywhere near as good as it does on an NES, but playing Final Fantasy is pretty similar.
I've just never been able to fully getting into playing some of the older games as a mobile game....the controls and everything just feel off. I guess it's because i've played them on a console. Heck it's even hard to force myself to play Zenonia or Across Age... Both are fun don't get me wrong but Zenonia plays better on vita to me

But in all seriousness, I think retro gaming won't die out with retro gamers, or that old games will be unappealing without "face lifts" or whatever. It's not like people don't listen to Mozart unless it's a techno remix (OMG techno is sooo retro...).

How many people are there who collect today and most of us are in our 20's and 30's and im sure we'll keep most of our stuff. Plus there will always be people like us who prefer to play on the original hardware in the future. So i don't see retro gaming and collecting dying anytime soon.

Eventually all our electronics will break or stop working, and if energy is too expensive for people to just make computers used for having fun, I'd be surprised if keeping old games playable will be anyone's priority...

Honestly the most true thing said in this thread yet(besides a few other things). Most of us take really good care of our games if we can help it, and honestly if they aren't the original carts it will probably end up being the reproductions really coming out once the originals start to fail and be irreparable....
