You damn philistines need to get to the theater more often.

Personally I think they could use Idina Menzel in the role because she's already going to be under heavy makeup; thus it makes it easier to de-age her to the college-age of the role.

I enjoyed every other song in the flick, but that one was TERRIBLE. Even my 3 year old daughter fast forwards through it. It was like they had to add something else to the trolls for no reason what so ever. I think it would have been better if Hans sang an evil song or something, like every other Disney villain.
I skipped through it too. I tried to make it all the way through it, but at about the half way I found I couldn't find the skip button fast enough.

I also read somewhere that Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez stated that "Love Is An Open Door" doubled as the villain song.
Kristen: .... The villain is singing a tango about his evil plan. Instead, we wrote this like karaoke-meet-cute “Love is an Open Door” kind of thing. It’s like a date. You’ve had a few too many drinks. And, you’re like, “Yeeeeaaaaahhhhhh!!!!” And, that’s our villain's song.

Robert: It’s a misplaced song. It’s too early in the film for a love song. And, It’s unsettling in a weird way, but really it kind of sucks you in. And then when the turnaround comes later. That song really creates the whiplash effect. That guy? That guy that was so cool and boppy?

Kristen: Well, because those are the true villains of our lives. I’ve personally dated Hans. They come on and their music is good and you dive right in.

I really disliked it the first time I heard it, but now after hearing it approximately 30 times or so, I think it's just forgettable, but not terrible. All the other songs immediately spring to mind when I read the title, but not Fixer Upper, I think that's the sign of a meh song.

It comes at an odd time as well. It's a upbeat and cheerful song with some cute moments, but the second it finishes there is the dramatic beat where Anna collapses and the clock starts ticking til her death.

^ Yeah, that's probably part of my problem with it. Technically speaking, it's not a bad song by itself. It's got a catchy beat and has a some cute animated moments, but they choose to break into the damn thing at the wrong time. The surprise winter is still raging, Anna's clearly in distress and Elsa's been captured and chained in a dungeon.... Que the upbeat song about how Anna needs to hook up with the burly mountain man!

If they wanted to inject more lightheartedness then use the damn snowman. I thought that was part of the reason he was there for.

It also bothers me that they've spent the last hour of the movie mocking Anna for agreeing to marry a man she just met that day and then the trolls turn around and try to marry her off to Kristof after she's known him for..... Wait for it..... One day. You are clearly sending me mixed messages, Disney, and I don't appreciate it

Not really posting much or browsing the forums these days, but Batman junkie that I am I had to say a few words about this movie for any one looking to buy it on May 5.

ImageImage

Wasn't expecting much after the movie's opening action sequence, which is over the top to the point of being ridiculous. It goes beyond comic book levels of over the top action towards the kind of ridiculous extremes you see in Japanese anime. I'll just say that there is no way a man in a small room surrounded by guys with machine guns can casually deflect their bullets with his sword

Also, Justice League: War was awful. I was ready to write off this movie as further proof that DC animated movies without Bruce Timm are going to be garbage.

But then it got good, sure there was some really quick exposition about how Batman's son came to be that seemed too quick and nonchalant given what a big deal that particular story actually is in the comics(it's the equivalent to people who haven't kept up with a TV show being given a quick "previously on" montage), but it's all uphill from there. The movie has some good dialog, funny lines and some great action scenes that while truly incredible in what they show us, don't get as ridiculously over the top as the movie's opener. The movie's final battle is extremely fast paced, bloody and brutal. If you don't care about spoilers, here's that fight in all its brutal glory:

The movie lives up to its name, as it's really more about Damian than it is Batman, but he is up to the task as the movie captures everything that made him obnoxious, yet also funny and cool in the comic books. I like the simplified Damian story told here. Grant Morrison has great ideas, but I often find actually reading his stories to be a chore as they are so convoluted. The guy's writing is a bit pretentious, but he has introduced some awesome stuff to the Batman mythos, like Damian of course. There are of course some big liberties taken here being a short animated movie, like the fact that I don't recall Deathstroke being a big part of Damian's story in the comics, not to mention how different Talia is presented (more in line with how people would remember her in Batman the Animated Series than the character Morrison turned her into) but it all works.

Overall, this is one of the better Batman movies I've seen, though not up there with the greats like Mask of the Phantasm, Under the Red Hood or Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker(Uncut), but it's a solid Batman movie nevertheless. I'm now very much looking forward to the animated feature they are doing based on the Arkham video games. It's going to have Kevin Conroy as Bats, and Troy Baker once again doing his best Mark Hammil impression as The Joker. Here's a trailer:

And for any hardcore Bat fans reading this who haven't been watching Arrow, this is a must see:

Ah, it's good to be a Batman fan these days :D

Superman? Who the hell is that?

I dont know what half those keywords are, what is a Fiyero and what is One Direction?
Fiyero is a character from Wicked. In the book he was a Prince from The Vinkus (known also by the more insulting name Winkie Country) with blue diamonds adorning his skin. In the musical, he was also a Winkie Prince (though here Winkie is not an insulting term) whose surname was Tiggular (which was later retconned in the later books in the Wicked Cycle) who was known more for being an empty-headed layabout more interested in "dancing through life". He was played by Norbert Leo Butz (who also played Roger at one point in RENT), and previous Fiyeros include Kristoffer Cusick, Sebastian Arcelus, Taye Diggs, Joey McIntyre, Aaron Tveit, Andy Karl, Kyle Dean Massey, Adam Garcia, Oliver Tompsett, Lee Mead, Mark Evans, Ben Freeman, Justin Guarini, Rob Mills, Adam Lambert (understudy), Richard H. Blake and Matt Willis [taken from Wikipedia].

And no one cares what One Direction is since they'll probably end up at the wayside pretty soon.
