Wavy back inserts on Saturn and Sega CD games.

I have noticed a lot of back inserts of sega cd and Saturn games are all wavy. You would think this would just be caused by water damage but that's not the case. I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about I have even found sealed ssaturn games this way and my copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga is like this as well which kinda made me mad, but after researching I found out that it's extremely common for that game to have the back insert all wavy.

After comparing it to my other games that aren't wavy i noticed that it's a different not as heavy duty card stock that was used. anybody have any clue why this happens?

the sun messes them up too. Being outside too long in yardsales and fleamarkets

Paper does weird things sometimes too. Especially with heat and humidity.

Early in the morning, condensation can form under plastic. I've see many audio cds and some comic books get wet and damaged because of this.

And yes, there is the neglect of having water spill on them.

people should take care of their old stuff better

I am asking this because I recently fell into about 2000 extra bucks and bought a copy of Panzer Dragoon saga off ebay that was listed as mint etc. and everything is except the back insert which is really wavy... which the buy never mentioned when i talked to him about the condition of everything. You think I should return it? I have never spent anywhere near this amount of money for a game in my life and it's driving me crazy. I beat the game years ago already and finally wanted to own a copy.

^ Just how much money? Return it and get what you want or at least take a partial refund. Weigh the pros and cons

Yes ^ this. It basically is water damage and that's why it can happen on "sealed" games.

Two things you can't avoid, the sun and moisture. It is everywhere and it is damaging to everything. It is really hard to keep these types of things in tact. There is a rental place near here that, if it ever goes out of business, I will snatch up their library of unbelievably amazing games. Problem is, all of them are sundamaged beyond belief.

If it has not been in your ownership the entire time, it is most likely already somewhat damaged and even then, you have to go to great lengths to keep your stuff in pristine condition.

Pretty much the best realistic places to put stuff is in a dark dry space around material that absorbs moisture(wood/cardboard/etc). Plastics such as those used in cases hold in moisture add heat to an environment with moisture in the air and bam wavy art work.

Just to add, things in shrinkwrap are never 100% air sealed. There are always little holes to allow air in and out, otherwise there'd a problem when you heat and shrink the plastic. If it were truly sealed it would just shrink down until it was all round like a balloon.

Hmmmmm this all obviously makes sense, but I think the the kind of print stock they used has a lot to do with it as I have hundreds of ps1 and dreamcast games etc. in smaller cases and have never seen wavy artwork unless it was obvious something was spilled on it, but in sega cd and saturn games it seems very common. I see it all the time. I hate those damn big cases and their artwork! I'd feel like an ass returning this to a point as it's not super wavy( I have seen way worse.) and the book is perfect..Hmmmmm
