Well if i start talking to someone about retro games, and then ask what consoles they have, and say they dont have any, they play on their phone, ill probably walk away.BoneSnapDeez wrote:This is not true at all.Hazerd wrote: On a more serious note, all those idiots on their smart phones playing retro games, and have never actually played the real hardware, are not retro gamers, just poser/wannabees.
Plenty of folks don't have access to original hardware due to price, scarcity, whatever. There's no "requirement" to being a retro gamer other than playing retro games. Doesn't matter whether you own 10,000 games or 0.

Did someone say "Poser"?
That takes me back to 1992 where in Middle School people debated if someone really liked Guns n' Roses*, or if they were total Posers.
If someone is playing smb. on an ipad, I could give a hoot. I have this strange personality trait where I like to see people happy.
*Appetite for Destruction had the first cartoon boob I had ever seen, and Use Your Illusion I&II were the first PAEL tapes I bought. Thank you Mr.David Geffen.

They did, but honestly it just doesn't feel the same having the digital version vs the physical version. Now it would be really funny if someone made the retro market(value wise for the rarer games) crash by doing repro's for those. Would be nice if someone did that just to help the value of some of the games come down

First, old games and systems will not simply disintegrate into thin air. They will still be here. Second, my favorites games will not suddenly become not my favorites because some years pass.
For instance, I have loved Shadowrun on Genesis since I was 12 years old (1995). I'm not going to wake up in five years and not love the game anymore.
Gaming's a pastime. It can be a very expensive one. There are people who forego food, bills etc to make sure they have their games. There are even people choosing to pass up much of a real existence to stay in and game 24/7. Thankfully, I'm not one of those people...I have my old favorites, but if they suddenly became super expensive to get or just vanished, I wouldn't think twice about it.

They have escaped into the mansion where they thought it was safe, yet.

If someone walks up to you and wants to talk about your favorite games with you, the exact same games you play, you'l walk away because the way they booted that game up is inferior to yours, and therefore they are a poser?
Thats stupid.
Do what you do, but this exclusivity elitist thing is stupid and is only harmful to the hobby (The hobby where we play games, not the one where we buy them). Imagine if all the PCB collectors over on shmups forum refused to talk to anyone who didn't own a candy cab and boards, just because it is their preference. The community would... well, probably just move somewhere else.
Re: Retro gaming in the future?
Hopefully it will die out in the mainstream at the very least so I don't see Atari 2600's priced at $125 my local pawn shop.
You never know, it might happen.

No, unfortunately they'll end up in landfills, all too often prematurelyjvalentine98 wrote:First, old games and systems will not simply disintegrate into thin air.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

I'd hope not...carts and discs are so much nicer to have than digital versions...KalessinDB wrote:No, unfortunately they'll end up in landfills, all too often prematurelyjvalentine98 wrote:First, old games and systems will not simply disintegrate into thin air.
