Nice! Yeah, it's much easier when I can see what's going on, for sure.MrPopo wrote:It definitely is a skill to learn to decipher the language. A good production can definitely help convey meaning through proper use of inflection and physical action. There's a troupe back in Chicago that does mostly Shakespeare and they have become very good at performing those roles for a modern audience.

Watch Richard III (1995), Romeo + Juliet (1996), and Hamlet (1995) (i.e., the four-hour, unabridged, totally awesome Kenneth Branagh version). Moreover, turn on the subtitles when you watch them. Those excellent films serve as a great introduction to Shakespeare, and they will help you better understand and appreciate his work. (As Mr. Popo stated, Shakespeare's plays were meant for an audience, not a reader.) Once you have watched the solid adaptations of the plays, return to the books to review (and perhaps memorize) a few of Shakespeare's best soliloquies.
Finally - to understand the versatility of Shakespeare's work - be sure to watch Akira Kurosawa's excellent Throne of Blood (1957) and Ran (1985). They are great films and fantastic "ports" of MacBeth and King Lear.

What Shakespeare are you reading, exactly? That could be part of the problem.catnip wrote:I'm so close to done my first Shakespeare play (I promised I would read one if my gf finished FFIX), and Jesus, it's a wall of soliloquies. This is truly the worst thing I've ever read. I don't understand any of what makes Shakespeare so beloved, and probably never will.

While we're noting favorite Shakespeare films, I'd like to bring up Hamlet (2000) with Ethan Hawke, it's a modern take like Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet, but much better IMO.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

Kroger, for the most part, is going to let HT run the way HT has always ran as long as they turn a decent profit. But! I saw this coming a mile away. The price changes won't likely be made across the board, as I'm sure some stores will be lab rats.
It will depend on nearby competition. Stores that are near Lowe's Foods and, say, a Fresh Market will probably maintain their higher prices as perceived value goes with higher price points. It is, however, possible that HT's private label items might be reduced in each and every store.
But Kroger didn't buy extra shelf space, they bought a brand. A strong brand. They certainly won't change HT into Food Lion.
...sorry. I could talk "grocery biz" for hours upon hours. Not only am I highly invested in it, I find it to be be crazily fascinating.

Oh we are lab rats, especially since there's a walmart next door(though I wouldn't shop at walmart to save my life unless it was the last choice or easiest to get too). From what I've heard it's rolling out in batches in select stores to see how it goes and if all goes well the rest of the stores will follow. Not to mention if like me you have direct contact with customers and don't wear a apron there's a new green shirt we're supposedly supposed to wear. But as far as i can see I'm getting out of the bagger job if i can help it and into a better position by the end of summer. i'm not cleaning up someone's "didn't make it to the toilet in time" again...I really don't need nightmares or dry heaves just thinking of it. And didn't you hear that bilo bought out lowe's foods(and then subsequently bought out by public)?Luke wrote:darsparx wrote:- kroger is making HT compete more with walmart so we have to lower prices, but they're making sure it doesn't affect our profit sharing checks next month....just hope they're right...that extra money is going to be nice if it's a decent sized check....

As long as I get paid, the name stays HT, and those profit sharing checks are decent I'm ok with changes on prices...it's just that I've realized after two months of working there and even more so now 7 months in that 120-180 is a little hard to live on with tuition and I'd rather be earning more so I can start working to saving up enough for emergencies and for a apartment or house....

I don't work in the grocery business, but I invest in it.
Lowe's Foods is still owned by Alex Lee, I can assure you that. Publix, Bi-Lo, and Lowe's Foods have been engaged with store swapping however.

Well that would explain why all the lowe's foods disappeared near me and now so has bilo. (the one store i do pass by on my regular basis on the way to work, has been turned into a publix)Luke wrote:I don't work in the grocery business, but I invest in it.
