Ever picked up a game that wasn't really a game?

Post by JC48573 »

Sigh....Yourself!fitness. You know, I didn't pick it up (xbox version) until just recently, but I was always fascinated by how realistic the character looked on the cover. I like to exercise, but man, I just wish they used more models like this in games. I always wonder why most developers didn't bother polishing up their characters back in PS2 era.

"Pyst" the parody of Myst is basically a collection of screens with silly things to click on. No puzzles, no goal, just clicking & jokes.

I also have Brain Age, Korg DS-10+, and Korg M01 - all for Nintendo DS.

That's all I can think of for my non-game game experience at the moment?

Anyone who collects pre-NES stuff has stumbled across cartridges that aren't really games.

BASIC Programing for the Atari 2600.
The Atari 5200 Diagnostic Cartridge.
The Music Machine and Music Composer carts for the C64.
Plus tons of other various programming, education, finance, and word processing cartridges that were released on old computers.

Seems like half of the releases on those "multimedia systems" (CD-I, Amiga CDTV, VIS) weren't really "games" either. The Flowers of Robert Mapplethorpe!!!

There is a KORG synth on the DS. Not a game, but still loads of fun.

The same goes for ElectroPlankton. It is more of a "toy" than a "game", but I still like it a lot.

Endless Ocean isn't really a game. You swim and look at fish.

Mario paint isn't really a game. That title should be self explanatory.

Taboo: The Sixth Sense on NES (I actually own a complete copy )
The Flowers of Robert Maplethorpe on CDI (basically a flower gallery you look through by clicking around)

Avoid 'em both

Electroplankton - it's not really a game but an experience!

Edit: Damn it, I just saw it mentioned.

This could lead to a discussion as to what makes a game, a game, which would be a much more interesting discussion.
