New Genesis Locking Up?

Post by Hawk »

Hey guys I just got a Model 1 Gen for better sound and my model 2 is about shot from years of game playing.

I just got it today for 30$ at my local game shop but on a couple of games it froze. No warning just was playing and freeze. Sometimes sound still played other not. Also I was playing Sonic 2 and went around one of the circles with rings on chemical plant and clipped through the level and got stuck LOL.

I have not run into any of this on my Model 2. I do clean my carts with 90% rubbing alc. Do you guys think its the slot or something worse? I have never had a game freeze on a Genesis just either works or doesnt and game needs cleaned.

Any tips would be great!

New Genesis Locking Up?
Topic just read "Used". Just playing.

Anyway, I would try cleaning the cartridge slot. Get a credit card and wrap a piece of cloth (like the cloths you use to wipe TV and Computer Screens) damped with rubbing alcohol around the card. The keep sticking it in and out of the cartridge slot to get the dirt and dust out. Keep doing this and make sure to rotate the card so you are using the cleaner parts of the cloth towards the end of the process. Keep doing it till you see no dirt.

Also, the sound "issues" with the 2nd gen Genesis can be fixed with a mod if you're not opposed to that -- look up Crystal Clear Audio Mod or CCAM over on Sega-16.com, you can get the schematics, get a prefabbed board, or even get guys to do the install for you. Once that's installed, my ears at least cannot hear a difference between the modded Genesis 2 and an original Genesis 1. Plus I usually hear Genesis 2 having a better video anyway (though I have my 32x connected permanently so it's a moot point for me)
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed

SOME Gen 2 models have better video. Mine does not. I have one of those middle-era models that has cheap, crappy everything. And with the Gen 2 it's hard to tell what components are under the hood.

It's actually pretty e z to tell.

This is the best one I believe (VA4):

if you send this pictures to sellers online who have a high quantity of genesis 2s and ask if they have it, they will usually check their stock for you.

I have it, and the sound is awesome. Some say it is almost as good as the Genesis 1. And the composite video is very good on my TV. Love it.
