Cellphone keeps shutting off (Samsung Focus S)

Post by Mad_Hatter »

My Samsung phone keeps shutting off. I am unsure of what the problem is.

I tried a different battery, same issue. I cleaned the charger port, same issue. I reformatted and factory reset the phone, same issue.

It's a little weird, because I believe it is prompting me to shutoff the phone. It does not just shutoff like it would if it ran out of battery or something.

I think it maybe be the on/off button on my phone because it is prompting me to shutoff while I am using the phone. On top of that, when it does shutoff, it tries to turn on again but it won't go passed the Samsung logo (it just keeps starting from that logo). It won't finishing turn on unless I tap the power button (at least that is what I think).

I would have to guess if that is the issue, then I got some dirt or grime stuck near the power button. Though, it does feel like the button is clean and working (no sticky response or as if the button is jammed), but I have not taken a look inside.

Anyway, if that is the issue, is it hard to take a part and reassemble a slim Samsung phone? By all means my phone is still usable and working. It just has that one problem, and I don't want to make matters worst. I have taken apart gameboys (pocket and advance sp) and reassembled them before, but never have I did a cellphone before.

Sounds as if the phone thinks the power button is being held down, like a stuck key on the keyboard. (It could also be that something near the power button is too tight, or even that there's an issue with the touch screen.) If you're comfortable taking it apart and have the tools to do so, check it out. Can't hurt.

I would recommend giving Samsung support a call before you dismantle it. You never know, they might be able to give you the solution over the phone.
Companies like Samsung are always willing to help. They want you to keep on buying their products.

whenever someone comes to me with this problem I ask their permission to root the blighters and install Cyanogenmod or other custom ROMs.

I assume you've got the latest firmware on this guy? I actually deal with these guys professionally and I vaguely recall people having this issue and it was resolved with firmware. We've all moved on to later model phones now, so I don't deal with the Focus S any longer.

It stopped doing it. :)

The button must have been jammed or something.
