for movie fanatics: a question

eXistenZ is one of my favorite films. Cronenberg gets a bad rap sometimes from some people--I'm not entirely sure why. He makes some damn fine films; consider The Fly or A History of Violence. There are sometimes some pretty glaring flaws to his movies, but once you look past them there is usually a lovely pile of substance to paw through. eXistenZ in particular gets a bad rap because it's a movie about a virtual world that came out at around the same time as The Matrix, but the two movies could not be more different.
