I stand corrected then. I just know I planned on going to Ole Miss and they wanted the ACT and if for some reason I wanted to take the SAT I would have had to drive like 2 hours to take it:lol:MrPopo wrote: I ended up taking both the ACT and the SAT since half the schools I applied to wanted the SAT and half wanted the ACT. Not sure what was up with the rounding for you; according to Wikipedia you could always make a 36.

What still puzzles me is that during interviews for executive positions, I still get asked "What was your SAT score?".
That always makes me want to ask, "You read my resume right? The stuff about millions in sales, the business acquisitions, the betterment of the business infrastructure I established...? You don't want to talk about that stuff? You want to know what I did when I was seventeen?
Well okay. I kicked ass in Earth Science..."
I don't think by any means that I'm a perfect interviewer, but do know I'm good. I don't need you to pee in a cup or tell me what you'll be doing in five years (as I don't care). Just tell me if you are right for the job or not, and say it like you mean it.
Back on topic...The pic that goes along with the AP press with this article has made headlines.
It's a pic of two black kids getting ready to pound a white kid.
The argument is "Why are the bullies black?"
My answer/question is "why not?". Pointing out race and making it a deal, whether in a positive or negative light, makes me angry.

Dear God. I had to take the GRE and GMAT for Grad school nonsense, and both tests were a chore.MrPopo wrote: I ended up taking both the ACT and the SAT since half the schools I applied to wanted the SAT and half wanted the ACT.
If I was a fat cat with too much money to spend, I'd make a better test of one's intelligence. I totally agree that "poor test takers are dumb" and that "I don't test well" is a sorry excuse, but most exams are dumb. Tax forms make more sense than most standardized tests.

The people I had trouble with in school were mostly sociopaths with plenty of friends but nobody who ever really stood up to them.
Last one I dealt with was in high school my junior year. I actually ended up transferring to the next county over it got so bad. The kid I had a problem with was the principles son. He went to assert his dominance day one and I didn't go for it so basically my life was made a living hell.
We had just moved and it was my first day at the school. I was signing in to my study hall period and he came up behind pushed me against the desk and rubbed his junk on the back of my pants. Needless to say I wasn't to esteemed about his greeting so he got launched over the teachers desk
. Didn't know it was the principles son at that point and ended up in the office. Of course he was "perfect" in her eyes so everything was overlooked. From that day on I was alienated by the entire school including some teachers. I couldn't eat in peace so I never bothered going to the lunch room. I started spending lunch outside reading until kids began "accidentally" nailing me with bean bags, sour cream packs, rocks, or whatever else they could find. Finally for the last month or so I just hung out in the library full time until finally on the verge of a nervous break down I swapped schools during Christmas break.
Found out a few months later the principles son was arrested for raping a girl and sent to juvy.
My cousin attended the same school for a few months before I got there and actually ended up getting jumped on his way home one day the kids beat the shit out of him then pissed all over his stuff. He was part Filipino so they didn't want him going there is what he told me. I thought he was making the shit up till I got there and found they had a "Cameo Clan"(Read KKK High school edition).

Re: Student Records Proof of Bullying, gets charged with....
I got bullied a lot where I grew up in Florida. My family didn't have a lot of money, I hit puberty at a much earlier age than the rest of the kids, and I had acne really bad. So, like most kids that are ridiculed, I tried to stay to myself. But, other kids would tear up my comics when I wasn't looking, put thumb tacks in my chair, blah blah blah. This went on until I grew super fast over one summer and was suddenly the biggest kid in the school for a while. At that point I would take up for myself and other kids that were getting picked on.
My favorite bullying story is that one day I walked into the Cafeteria and there was a group of kids teasing a LD kid. He was a large kid with a stunted mental capacity. The LD kid's defense was to bark at the other kids. He was obviously being bothered and other kids were laughing at him. No teacher's were helping (they were somewhat close by) so I walked up to the kids and asked what was so funny. The ring leader (Rollin Rock, I will never forget his name) looked at me and said "your face". So, I launched his lunch tray into his lap and punched him right in the mouth. All of those kids were stunned and walked away leaving Rollin there pissed and scared to do anything. All the teachers saw it and did nothing to me, but Rollin got in trouble for picking on the LD kid.
My early school life was absolutely terrible. I was miserable and didn't have many friends. But, once I told myself that enough was enough I gained a sort of confidence that attracted people to me (friend wise). I still didn't care for most of their company because I thought that I wasn't really a different person and that they should have given me the time of day before that point. However, I moved to WV when I was 15. To the kids up here I was this new mysterious kid that had a different clothing style and listening to cool music so I was instantly popular. I really came out of my shell at that point and was able to really live a fun adolescent life. I still didn't (and still don't) tolerate people getting picked on and was able to manage a social life where I hung out with the nerds playing video games and magic the gathering and also attend parties with the jocks and preps and date girls from all of the circles. People liked me because I was honest about who I was and whatnot. But, those were different times.
My kids won't be picked on. Period. I will teach them to defend themselves physically, verbally, and intellectually. If they can't resolve an issue by taking up for themselves then I will get involved and insist of know what the school is going to prevent my kids from being bullied, and if it continues I will bring it up with the school board.

I wish I could tell you differently, but you have no impact at all on this. Your kid(s) will be bullied, made fun of, teased, poked and prodded. That's life.Frag Mortuus wrote: My kids won't be picked on.

I think he means "My kids won't be victims"; at least that's what I read into it. He may not help everyone, bur he CAN make a positive difference in other people's lives. Saying that he doesn't have an impact is hogwash.Luke wrote:I wish I could tell you differently, but you have no impact at all on this. I agree, I guess a better phrasing will be it won't be tolerated and all measures to correct it will be taken.Luke wrote:I wish I could tell you differently, but you have no impact at all on this. Also, the last sentence of my previous post reads as if my brain fell out. This is what it should have said:
If they can't resolve an issue by taking up for themselves then I will get involved and insist on knowing what the school is going to do to prevent my kids from being bullied, and if it continues I will bring it up with the school board.
Re: Student Records Proof of Bullying, gets charged with....
Yeah, but I think Frag's plan is to teach his kids to respond to bullies by helping them discover if they have glass jaws.Luke wrote:I wish I could tell you differently, but you have no impact at all on this. Re: Student Records Proof of Bullying, gets charged with....
I would only want my kids to resort to fighting if that is the only way to stop their harassment. If they can do so by other means, I would prefer that. But, if they start getting physically picked on, I want them to be able to stand up for themselves. It should only take a few instances of slapping bullies around until they get the point and leave my kids alone.
