I assembled a decent rig a few years ago and now it's less powerful than the stock laptop I picked up a couple of months back.

if the stock laptop you just picked up is better, then I'm guessing that the rig you assembled was less than decent. I mean, your stock laptop doesn't have a dedicated GPU for gaming. What GPU did you put in your rig?

Think I'm done with the whole "gaming PC" scene.

And most PC games with heavy system requirements seem to be ported to consoles now anyway.

I built a gaming pc in 2008 for $500 with the only upgrade being Windows 7, and still use it now, so far the only game I have not been able to play properly is Witcher 2.

I don't remember honestly (and I can't check as I'm @ school). I didn't go balls out, I can tell you that. I wasn't planning for the distant future, it was really designed to play upcoming titles I was interested in (like Dragon Age, Divinity II, etc). I know I have some sort of ATI 512 MB card, which was decent enough for the time. 4 GB RAM.

It's all a moot point anyway as most PC games I play are DOS or Win 95/98.

Well, Witcher 2 for starters.

I'm in the same boat as fast, apparently.

So clearly this means I have no prayer of running The Witcher 3.

eh, my PC has gotten a solid couple years of gaming out of it. It will probably get another two before I upgrade. My cpu is a Q6600 quadcore which is still a bit of a haus, its just my gpu needs to be upgraded, which means I have to upgrade my PSU, and since my mobo is maxed at 4gigs, well it just snowballs from there. I have an new in box 850 watt OCZ PSU that I was given, but that would melt my current case.

Heh, as fastbilly knows, mine has been past due for an upgrade for years. Games I can't run include the likes of Borderlands 2, Serious Sam 3, Saints Row 3, Skyrim, Amnesia, etc.

Well, me and my brother. And I doubt he'll be able to upgrade for a while.

I can't run the Witcher 2 either, but my video card is terrible. Otherwise my cheap desktop could run most stuff I would think.


Is it just your video card that can't handle Witcher 2, or is it CPU and the whole shabang?
