Student Records Proof of Bullying, gets charged with........
Re: Student Records Proof of Bullying, gets charged with....
I'm Jack's complete lack of surprise.
It makes perfect sense to punish this victim of bullying. If the news story never came out, no one would have cared or listened. It would have been yeah sure you went to the teacher. Yeah sure you filed a complaint.
What I would like to come out of this? The same thing I would like to come out of everyone instance some Wire tapping laws are used. We need to redifine this for the 21st century. If you are recording something bad that serves a genuine purpose (like being harassed and bullied), you should be protected from wiretapping laws. Crazy?
If you make a recording that the police view as "illegal", asking the student to delete it is asking the student to delete "evidence".
Why is this so hard for cops/school administration to understand?

That is so insane on so many levels. Thats what kinda scares me about becoming a teacher. Now kids are never wrong, it is somebody else's fault that they are shit heads.
I guess I will just be a very unpopular teacher because I can't sit there and take the same stuff the teacher from the recording listened to.

You know, you'd expect a judge to, you know, have a vast vocabulary and, you know, have a better handling of the English language, because you know, you expect him to be smart, and not, you know, a clear moron......YOU KNOW
good to know they also respected his right to medical privacy.......oh waithe was, however, previously diagnosed with a comprehension delay disorder, which is a slower processing speed for information than is normal, ADHD, and an anxiety disorder.

The wiretapping laws aside which I agree seem ridiculous, the medical privacy expectation doesnt really exist when the mother or family uses it as a defense or brings it up themselves.

Fair enough, but from that article it's not possible to know for sure if it was the mother who revealed that information because:Jmustang1968 wrote:The wiretapping laws aside which I agree seem ridiculous, the medical privacy expectation doesnt really exist when the mother or family uses it as a defense or brings it up themselves.
The defendant is, according to school records, a well-behaved student with no history of disciplinary action. He was, however, previously diagnosed with a comprehension delay disorder, which is a slower processing speed for information than is normal, ADHD, and an anxiety disorder.

Maybe, sorta related:
You have no privacy, and it's utter bullshit to charge anyone with wiretapping, snooping, etc. Your digital footprint is everywhere.
Responsibility and accountability should exist.

When I was a kid there was another kid who liked to make lots of snide comments, one day I got fed up, shoved him, he punched me in the nose, I got a one day in-school suspension, he got a multi-day out of school suspension, and I never had a problem with him again. When I hear all these news stories it feels like the modern day kids have no notion of conflict resolution. And based on the transcript in the article it sounds like the teachers have no ability to discipline. Maybe we need to stop having schools kowtow to every whiney parent out there and let them do their jobs of molding these kids.

I moved around a bit while I was a kid, and as an "outsider" with one hand, I ended up punching a lot of kids. Each kid I fought, usually ended up becoming a close friend.MrPopo wrote:When I was a kid there was another kid...
1)Kid made fun of me.
2)Punched kid in the face.
3)Became friends.
That's how things worked, at least in the early 90's.
Except for Justin McKeithen. Beat the crap out of that kid and I still hate him. In the process of pummeling him with ten year old sinew the jerk managed to ruin my black and pink Nike windbreaker.

Kids now a days can't solve a conflict on their own. Their parents have to get involved. I think its ludicrous. The only place that they really can besides outside of school, is in sports. Ive seen a lot of fights on the practice field and the coaches let it go until there is a winner then they stop it, but then again the school fighting rules really didn't translate to the football field.
