And I don't know why these pro-Russkie men are called terroriztzz.. Call them insurgents, rebels, separatists, Ivans etc, but they haven't terrorised any civilians afaik
Except for, you know, those guys they kind of shot.

Admittedly though, terrorist is the Ukrainians' label for the pro-Russian militants. And as for getting involved, it is unknown just how involved we were with the initial overthrow of the pro-Russian government, but after having watched Russia invade Georgia and now take Crimea, with pro-Russian forces taking more government buildings in eastern Ukraine(with some evidence pointing to Russian agents pushing them forward while Ukrainian security forces are riddled with Russian sympathizers and spies), and with the Russian military sitting on the edge of the Ukrainian border, will Russia seek to expand, and if they do expand further into Ukraine, will they then stop, or will Putin seek more? Will Russian forces seek to annex parts of Belarus? Latvia? Estonia? Finland? At one point should we start worrying about this expansion? If they go unchecked, and Putin does seek to expand further, will he try to reclaim all former Soviet satellites? Sure, it may well all be a ridiculous misunderstanding of Russian intentions, but I'd rather we be involved in some capacity then sit back and see what happens.

Putin should know better than to manhandle a Nato member, because that would obligate other members to intervene and only a madman would seek a head-on confrontation.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Obligate. Simply put major NATO countries like Germany (worst of all of them in this case), Spain, Italy and some small ones (including mine I am disgusted to say), wouldn't care to go to war over small pieces of Baltic countries territory, SPECIALLY if it meant that profitable business they have with Russia (selling cars, machinery, buying cheap gas, Russian tourists in their countries) would go bad.

The only way I can see NATO striking back is if they conquer an entire country, or they attack Finland or Poland which are actually respected as important countries (cause of the size of their economies).

This is why I am in favor of federalization of the EU with transfer of foreign policy powers to Brussels. When you have 28 countries each one being selfish trying to gain something for itself instead of the good of the group, you will never get anything done.

Thank god at least the UK and France still have well equipped modern armies and are willing to do something to maintain global order.

Yeah, that's basically what the US went through from the period of conception to the Civil War. The original Articles of Confederation had an extremely weak central government that was scrapped a few years in and redone as the current Constitution, and even then there was still the notion of the States being mini-countries until the Civil War put the country firmly in the spot of a fully federalized nation.

Yeah that's not happening in Europe. We are distinct nation states, with lots of history (some of us dating 3000+ years old :P ), and no way will any country want to give away power, subsidize other countries, or accept orders from others.

The establishment of major federations/unifications (USA, Germany, Italy) all happened by force. That won't be happening in the EU.

Mind you I wouldn't mind it if Brussels ran my country instead of Greek politicians (since our political class/parties have all been born and prospered in corruption, it's impossible for change to come from "within the system"), as long as they did away with all the corruption and they agreed to subsidize us in return.

But as I said, politicians don't want to lose power, and tax payers don't want to give away money to other countries.

So then couldn't you guys just let Putin roll over Europe like Stalin in Red Alert? That way you'd get the federalization and you wouldn't have to worry about giving money away to other countries, as you'd all be one country.

This notion of country is pretty antiquated anyway.

Because of this:

And I agree with that second statement.

Since most governments are incompetent, I'm all for an all-benevolent elite ruling over the planet, but as with all things human they're going to wind up corrupt beyond belief. Unless of course, we delegate control to AI, but even that can be altered to suit one group's whims over the others. In short, we're still screwed

Is Algeria going to become the next Arab spring?

Already posted that several (dozen?) pages back :P Except that someone did start the fire. There was colonialism, and there were two big WW's, and there was plenty of shit before those. Perhaps why the Arab spring failed was because it was a spontaneous uprising without a scheming elite fueling and banking on it to take over, like the Bolsheviks did for example. Tunisia is a small country and they got lucky despite all the challenges that they're facing.
