The Last of Us: Re-money Grab

Post by Retrogamer0001 »

Surprise surprise, The Last of Us: Remastered is getting released only on PS4 at full price, obviously taking a page out of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition's playbook. To me, this reeks of a money grab and is starting to become a disturbing trend, one that will likely continue for the next year or two.

Why is it disturbing or any more of a money grab than the original release? For those who bought and played it on the PS3, it probably isn't for them. For those who may have made the jump from the 360 to PS4 and missed out, this would be perfect for them.

I'm perfectly fine with this, I don't see anything wrong with releasing games at full price even if they are "old".

Besides freeware, isn't every game designed to make money?

For me, this is a marketing strategy from Sony, and it's actually a decent one, considering how well Tomb Raider did. The problem I have with it is the double-dipping in regards to people who have already paid full price for this game. It's disturbing to me because I don't believe the game should cost full price - why should it? The costs for adding slightly updated graphics and a slightly higher frame-rate can't reasonably justify it as the game was already a finished product a year ago. This kind of thing just irritates me, especially with the success of this game in particular.

If it were a rerelease on PS3 I could see it maybe being a bit annoying, but yeah, different system. Nobody is forcing anyone with both systems that played it on PS3 to rebuy.

We call those Greatest Hits versions, and they're heavily discounted

If full prices and potential re-releases bother you, then wait a year or two before buying anything. *shrug*

Pretty much.

I have no issue with re-issues like this. I wish every game was ported to multiple systems.

I completely fail to see how this is a problem.

And considering how bad the PS3 game looked and ran I'm actually glad they're putting it onto a more capable system.
