sort of. it's just the console w/ cables, no controllers or games, and it currently has the red ring of death. looking at this tutorial it doesn't seem too difficult to attempt to fix, i'm just wondering if anyone on here has had any experience with this? a friend of mine has done it before and it worked out for him, just looking for some more insight before ripping this fucker open.
i'm pretty stoked, i want to play blue dragon real bad.

If it's RROD, I think you can just send it to MS and get a refurb free of charge.

As far as I know, all models are covered for three years specifically for the RROD problem.aaron wrote:more info plz, i don't have a warranty or any sort of paperwork.Flak Beard wrote:If it's RROD, I think you can just send it to MS and get a refurb free of charge.
You should be able to do it all through their site...

We already have a thread on this.

Yes, you can send it to Microsoft and they will fix it for you. I had a situation identical to yours and they fixed mine, although I'm still waiting for it in the mail. Go find the Xbox website. You'll need to get the console serial number and ID number off the back, and make a Windows Live ID if you don't already have one.
Don't rip it open. You're probably just going to void your warranty mucking about, and I doubt you'll cure the RRoD.
Is it an Arcade? You might qualify for a free 512mb memory card or a discounted refurbished 20gb hard drive.

Exactly. Try sending it in before messing with a home made RROD fix. Chances are you'll get an even newer model back.philipofmacedon wrote:Don't rip it open. You're probably just going to void your warranty mucking about, and I doubt you'll cure the RRoD.

Something to bear in mind though is that the warrantee is non transferable so if it has been sent back before by the previous owner, get them to do it again or else they will know it's second hand and they'll void the warrantee.
Recently happened to the guy I sold mine to and since I had sent it back once when I owned it, they wouldn't repair it under warrantee. They also put a note next to the console serial number which meant I couldn't send it back for him either.

God damn I hate the internet.

Hey, well, the price is right.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

yeah i don't really scour forums like i should. sorry.
the tutorial i posted has been attempted and worked for a good friend of mine, he is still using his to this day. it takes a little bit of technical knowledge but it's not that deep.
it's not an arcade, it has a hard drive. i don't really know what kind it is, though. it's not an elite.
