I've always put Battle Arena Toshiden in the same category as Virtua Fighter and Bloody Roar - they got a pass for doing something new but they didn't really do it that well.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Oh man, them's fighting words! No one talks bad about my virtua fighter! You could make that claim about the first one and maybe even about the second (although some hold the second as the greatest....which is ridiculous), but 4 and on are seriously some of the best fighting mechanics ever witnessed for a 3D fighter.

Oh, trust me I was talking about the specific titles not the series. Virtua Fighter definitely got its shit together later on. The first two were as boring to me as the early Tekkens, though.

Haha. I was worried I would have to throw the gauntlet down :D but I agree, early 3D fighters were just plain ugly, clunky and awkward. Except for Tobal....Tobal was cool.

Never played Tobal. I do give a pass to early 3D fighters that played out on a 2D plane. Think Rival Schools (a sacred name in my home) or the Street Fighter EX series. The ones that actually worked on a 3D plane were just junk - of course, we as rubes were impressed enough at the 3D graphics to plop more quarters in.

Congratulations! It is a pretty awesome feeling. The first time I beat Phantasy Star Online, I did it solo and it was quite the feat!

^ That's what I did earlier this year.

I have a bunch of Phantasy Star games "on deck" that I need to play soon. Love that series. I've even been itching to replay the original.

My friend and I co-op'd the crap out of PSO, but yeah never went online. Think I had 90 hours on my playthrough... I don't know how.
