Survival Horror for the PlayStation 2
Survival Horror for the PlayStation 2
I compose a lot of lists about fighting games, but I'm also a big survival horror buff(currently running through Carrier for the Dreamcast). As PlayStation 2 games get less expensive, I wanted to ask you guys your thoughts on some of the SH games to come out for the console. Which ones were good, which ones weren't. Were there any little known titles you think others should have played? What were your favorites, and what did you think were train wrecks, and why?
I'll start with Clocktower 3. First, I really liked it. The enemies were entertaining, I liked the feeling of helplessness that the game instills, and its various historical settings interested me. The plot was extremely corny(horrendously corny), but some of the cut scenes were great, especially when the psychopath with the hammer kills the little girl.
Beyond the random tripping, the controls were solid, but in general I never really felt that scared as I was always really good about remembering my hiding spots. The audio did have a nice buildup whenever a psychopath appeared too, both as a warning and to help create that sinking feeling. There were some great moments where I would run to a door only to have the psycho open it right in front of me.
So what about you guys? Want to talk the finer points of Siren or lament a little about Silent Hill 4? Come on, I want to know what SH games I missed!

Evil Dead: A Fistful Of Boomstick and The Thing are two of my favorites that seem to get overlooked.

The Thing is really underated, I absolutely loved playing the PC version. I also really enjoyed the Fatal Frame/Project Zero games for PS2 & Xbox.

Ack, just started Haunting Ground its very good. Especially if you liked Clock Tower 3. The production values are very high and the story is weird, gotta love Capcom. I love Survival Horror as well and find that the PS2 does it best. I've been trying to collect all the survival horror games on PS2 and other consoles and have a pretty complete collection now. Even when compared to the new consoles PS2 still reigns supreme when it comes to survival horror.

Run Like Hell, Siren, and the Evil Dead game are all on my list of games to play in the next month or so - not sure if any of them are good, though.

Just so you know, there's 2 Evil Dead games for PS2. A Fistful Of Boomstick is one, and the other is Regeneration. I haven't played Regeneration yet.
In my opinion the best Evil Dead is the PS1 version, because it keeps the setting of the original film.

Silent Hill 2 and 3 were both really good in my opinion (though some disagree with my thoughts on Silent Hill 3). I'd steer away from 4.
I'm glad to hear those Evil Dead games are good, some of my favorite movies but never played any of the games!

The first Evil Dead is probably my favorite movie of all time.

I have Regeneration, which is the better reviewed of the two. If I like it I may check out Boomstick, too.noiseredux wrote:dsheinem wrote:Run Like Hell, Siren, and the Evil Dead game are all on my list of games to play in the next month or so - not sure if any of them are good, though.
