The Russian population/oligarchs will once their day to day lives get affected by the economic pain.BoringSupreez wrote:Putin has shown no indication that he cares about whatever sanctions we impose on him.ZeroAX wrote:Anyone needing more proof that Russia must be punished economically HARD? Just look at Iran. Economic sanctions can work, and when his entire presidency is based on him making their day to day lives better, I can't see him being able to hold on to power if the economy collapses.

I doubt it. This is the same country that used to be the Soviet Union, after all. I remember being told by someone from Russia that "Russians are great at suffering."ZeroAX wrote:The Russian population/oligarchs will once their day to day lives get affected by the economic pain.BoringSupreez wrote:Putin has shown no indication that he cares about whatever sanctions we impose on him.ZeroAX wrote:Anyone needing more proof that Russia must be punished economically HARD? Yeah that's what we were saying too, then we stopped being dirt poor, and now many people are being driven to their limits by the crisis. Once you are used to a comfortable life, it's hard to go back.BoringSupreez wrote: I doubt it. This is the same country that used to be the Soviet Union, after all. How would America put sanctions on Russia?
Russia is so big and powerful that it can stand on its own. When you compare that to Iran, Iran builds nothing. They are a 3rd world country with many enemies around the border, not to mention fears of uprising from the inside.
If USA decided to put economic sanctions on Russia, what would USA do if Russia and China decides to put sanctions on USA as a response?

The PRC would do no such thing, at least not for the foreseeable future. Their economy is too entangled with the US for it to be feasible, not to mention historically-speaking the two nations were usually adversaries to varying degrees. Everything is subject to change though.RCBH928 wrote: If USA decided to put economic sanctions on Russia, what would USA do if Russia and China decides to put sanctions on USA as a response?
Sanctions usually serve to embitter the populace towards the forces that impose them. It's the modern version of laying siege to a town sans the physical pillaging and rape (occasionally they come with that as well

Funny how the "fascists" in Maidan never fired back (well, 99% of them at least), even when they had snipers shooting at them, and yet these "normal everyday protesters" are so well organized to set up control points and shoot to kill 2 days into their "struggle".
And the Russians wonder why not a single country from the Warsaw pact likes them.

So the difference between Russia and the States, in the latter your head doesn't get bashed in (at least not routinely)
