Im thinking of purchasing one because Im on a tight budget and cant go spending on all the games I want. Im really leery of buying one, are they reliable? I went to tototek and I dont want to spend $100+ on something that my computer wont agree with.
if anyone could give me the lowdown on these things I would really appreciate it.
flash cart

Re: flash cart
well, if you're willing to use a flash cart than you probably don't care about completeness or condition of the cartridge. I imagine you've already got a small collection of games as it is, and do you think there are $100 worth of cart only games that you would get? Auctions are ending so cheap now too on ebay
Re: flash cart
I have both a flashcart (tototek one) and a large (35+) collection of original, boxed and complete games. If I were only interested in playing games then I could have probably lived without the flashcart, but I also do some megadrive programming - so it's nice to be able to flash my own code to cartridge and run it on a real MD.
Anyway, I can highly recommend getting one. They work perfectly and you should have no compatibility problems. The only thing you need to ensure is that you flash the correct ROM files for your region. But even import ROMs can be region unlocked with a little utility program before you flash. So if there are any games you've always wanted to play which were never released in the States, they're good for that too.
The only thing I'm concerned about is the lifespan of these flashcarts. They're based on flash technology, so I'm guessing there is a limit to how many times they can be flashed before the chips expire. It would have been much better if the cart was designed to use removable SD or Compact Flash, like some of the GBA flash carts. I've flashed mine hundreds of times already tho, and it's still going strong. But how much longer it'll last is anyone's guess
(I guess there are figures out there somewhere).
