Some poop is very expensive. Kopi Luwak is a partially digested coffee bean full poop. There is a specific blend of Panda poops that is used to make some of the most expensive tea in the world aswell. Heck run of the mill rhino poop is about $100 a pound. Yes I was looking up fertilizers recently, why do you ask?

But to get back on topic, my only hate for resellers is when they grab everything in the thrift store and hold on to it until they look up each item. I do not run into many of them, but when I do it is painfully obvious. I have enjoyed talking to most book resellers who use their pocket pcs to check skus, ironically most of them have the same same opinion of game resellers.

I have had several events like pvt_awol and soul_hacker, but I have been doing it for about 25 years. Sadly most of them have happened in the last five years. A very well known vendor at a convention was trying to sell an Earthbound NES cart as an original for $100 stating it was a prototype. I asked him if I could open it to verify, and if it was a legit prototype I would pay him 1k on the spot. He declined, since we both knew it was just the one from NES Reproductions with a torn label. So I have stopped going to flea markets and garage sales for games primarily, but it never hurts to ask. Things pop up in the strangest places, like my Vectrex with 3d Imager that a friend of mine found for sale at a gas station.

I guess for me, it really has absolutely NOTHING to do with money, nor the prices that re-sellers are setting. If I want a game bad enough, I'll pay the asking price. (Just nabbed Alundra off Ebay actually.)

It's the "attitude" the makes me want to go postal.

I can be butt-hurt as much as the next guy. I can complain about how my SNES collection will never grow to more than it currently is, because I refuse to pay $30 bucks a pop for crappy games. But at the end of the day, it's luck as far as deals go. Am I mad that a re-seller got to the deal before me? Sure, I guess. Am I mad that a fellow collector got the deal before me? I'd have to say equally so, since I didn't get the deal myself. So in the end, it's a crap shoot.

But that damn "re-seller arogance" or "smugness" or whatever you want to call it, is seriously about to drive me postal.

To stick with the thread, I am pretty sure I am going to resell the Imager. I have had no luck finding a Multicart/Flashcart or 3d Minestorm at a decent price, I have the dial for 3d Minestorm, to make sure it works. The hardest part is knowing that if I sell it, I will NEVER have another one.

I talked about selling a game on eBay for an expensive price, so let me talk about the other side of the coin now. Recently I paid $80 for an excellent condition copy of Fire Emblem: Path Of Radiance. I bought it off eBay. Am I part of the problem? Or am I sucker?

Well, here's the deal. This game came out in 2005, and at that time I was completely oblivious to its existence. I was much more of a PC gamer during that time than a console one. I didn't even get a GameCube until 2007. And I didn't become interested in Fire Emblem until Awakening was released. So of course you do your research for the best games in the series and Path Of Radiance is mentioned over and over. Well now, it's 2014 and said game came out 9 years ago. It had a limited release to a niche fanbase that likely doesn't want to let their copies go due to nostalgia. The few that make it out into the wild then are a true rarity, especially complete in box and not scratched to hell.

All of those factors combined, I can understand why the game is expensive, and it didn't bother me to pay that much for a game that is in actuality rare. I can't find this game in any local pawn shop, I can't find it any local GameStops, or at a flea market. My only option is the internet, so I'm not surprised I had to pay a premium. And I'm not even mad about it. If I was going to be mad about it, I should be mad at Nintendo for not releasing a Nintendo Selects version of it for Wii at $20 a pop like they did with other games. But I certainly don't think the seller was the bad guy.

Three years ago I also paid about $90 for a mint copy of Phantasy Star Online I & II for GameCube as well. So maybe I'm just crazy in the head after all.

Ivo wrote:You can not have your cake and eat it.

If you don't like middle men, don't blame the middle men, but blame the rules of society that not only allow them but encourage them to exist.

Middle men exist for a reason (or more than one).
That is pretty much what I was getting at; hence the "catch-22". You can't have it both ways all the time, I understand this.
But I've never liked that mentality or expression either (we live in a society where you CAN have and/or eat cake whenever you want, with a little effort). True, everything has a cost, as you also mentioned (some of it being inconvenience, and time IS money of course). Maybe I do blame society for aggravating that cost.

My post was mostly to identify/empathize with the frustration inherent in the buyer-seller relationship. I am quite aware of why things are the way they are and even the necessity that middle-men serve. But don't expect everyone to be happy about it either.

Perhaps more true than anything else said on this thread (and a sentiment I mentioned on a couple others) is that man likes to complain...
...and really, the title may as well read "Come here to complain about resellers".
...just another lost soul...

Here is how I feel and I have a couple of feelings on this.
A. If you buy a game and later on after you beat it and your not playing it and the value of the game should go up and becomes a rare game or whatever and you want to sell it then I say go for it.
B. If you buy games just to make some money on the side to help out finances and help with bills and feed your family then by all means.
C. If your buying a game and want to trade those in to purchase another game you want to play or buy then cool.
But,
A. I freaking hate when people who just sit and wait for the clerk to come out with games and they shove you away and take all the games from the clerk with their phone and when you ask if you can buy one or two and he tells you to f... off then charges you ebay prices, and says he has to live lol especially when I see the bastard has better shoes and a better car than you then I say grab those games, throw a snap kick right into his groin, and tell him to get a fucking job.
B. When you see vendors hog all the games at people with other booth's for 3-5.00 and then goes and triple the price at their booth. 2 inside vendors and 1 outside vendor do this all the time at the grafton flea market.
C. When you go to the flea market ask a guy how much for a game and it says 2.00 and he says hold on and pulls his phone or laptop and says wrong price and charges you 40.00 because amazon said so.

Remember when flea markets used to be a place where people are supposed to sell their junk at a price to clean out their closets or garages? remember those days?
Anyways those are my only beefs about resellers. I bought some wii games, played them for a little and now I sold them on ebay to buy some games here on racketboy. That to me is the best way for flipping games on here and sharing games with other collectors/gamers
Lastly, for me personally what I will be doing is if I go to the flea market and I find rare gems that people here want like let's say chrono trigger for snes and I see it for 10.00 I would sell it here for 20.00. It's double my money and so damn cheaper than anywhere else and it goes to you guys. People may think I might be lying on that and sell it for what it's worth but look at what I priced my dreamcast and psone games. A few dollars more than what I paid like castlevania chronicles sells for 60-80 but I sold it for 40.00. 5.00 more than what I paid for it

What I have started doing with my reselling is basically posting stuff to eBay right off with reduced prices for members. Been doing 10% off for RB members and I usually list my items at 10% off whatever the lowest BIN is for items in similar condition. Right now I'm kind of transitioning to where anything over $10 I just throw into auctions since the prices seem to fluctuate so much and I find it ridiculous trying to figure out a fair price when prices seem to be so inflated on some games :P.
