Hehe, good on ya, noise! :D

Since we discovered last night that GGXXAC+R is basically doodoo for online play, perhaps we can get chacha to run 3S one more time next week.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (PS4)
First things first: this is a very short game, just like everyone's been saying. I beat the main portion of the game in a single 90-minute run with no enemies killed, no help from the internet, and no intention of speedrunning. Ground Zeroes is just plain short.

The gameplay doesn't really have the usual MGS feel to it... in fact, the more I think about it, this is by far the most different Metal Gear game I've ever played. Weapon selection is done COD or BF style, enemies can be tagged and tracked using binoculars just like in BF4, there's no shooting in first-person perspective except during the new Reflex Mode (when you're first spotted by an enemy, slo-mo kicks in and you have the chance to stop the alert before it happens by quickly taking out the enemy), enemies have much better eyesight than before, there's no cardboard boxes, health is regenerating, the entire map is loaded at once instead of being divided up into small sections, Snake's voice actor is different (and in my opinion, has far less personality than Hayter did), and there's far less interaction between characters.

However, I still enjoyed myself quite a bit. If you're expecting the usual MGS gameplay you'll be disappointed, but if you can accept the new gameplay for what it is it's great. The stealth is more realistic and deep, there are far more options to choose from when going about a task (multiple routes, places to scout things out from beforehand), and enemies react more realistically when they encounter you.

The graphics and sound are very nice as well. Everything runs smoothly and looks very sharp. Except for Snake's new VA, the voices are well done. The music was made (or chosen) by Harry Gregson-Williams, just like in almost every other MGS, which is awesome.

As for the story and characters, my opinions depend on how The Phantom Pain turns out. I can take the lower-key story and reduced character interactions if it's just to keep things mysterious and ambiguous so as to build up interest for TPP, but if that's how TPP is going to be too then I'm a little disappointed. A lot of cool things happen in Ground Zeroes, but Snake seems to be only a vehicle for the player's ride instead of the interesting person he was in previous games.

And now I wait for the next game. Hopefully it doesn't take too long.

49. Crusader of Centy (Genesis)
50. Joe & Mac (SNES)

Keeping it brief because I'm tired and cranky and my left sock is oddly moist.

Battle Arena Toshinden
First fighting game of the year. Maybe the only one. This genre isn't my bag. I played it on Super Game Boy so it displays in glorious full color. I traditionally play as the cutest character so I chose Ellis. Pretty easy game with hilarious dialogue. I guess this port is inferior to the console versions, but I've never played those.

Crusader of Centy
A Zelda-esque game on Genesis. Really short and linear. Or it would be if I actually knew where to go. It's far too cryptic for its own good, and most of the dungeons are mediocre (not to mentioned bogged down with tedious block-pushing puzzle nonsense). The game's saving grace is that there are no items, but instead you travel with a pack of animals with different abilities. It was pretty damn fun to mix and match between all the critters.

Joe & Mac
Caveman platformer on SNES. I played the arcade version (via the Wii) earlier this year. I seem to enjoy this port better. It's still pretty humdrum overall and most of the weapons have that annoying arc pattern when thrown. Sweet graphics though.

Well this is not even close to the same game as the console game. The PS1/Sat game is a 3D fighting game. This is a 2D game w/ chibi characters. And Takara did an amazing job with it. Heck, I'd contend that it holds up better now than the console game does. And I'd point any fans of NGPC fighting games to this one for sure. And Ellis rules.

Well the problem is that you were playing the wrong game. Battle Arena Toshinden is a bad game whether it be on console or handheld. Yeah with fighting games, you really need that other person to challenge you to play and encourage you to learn the systems. It really is one that requires a lot of time and a lot of practice and for a lot of people, it just doesn't do it for them. I don't blame them.

For me, what makes it easier is to treat it like a rhythm game. Every game has a type of rhythm to it, fighting games are no different and if you find the right character in the right game with the right rhythm, it makes all the difference. That is why I enjoy the Virtual Fighter series. Its rhythm I find to be addicting.

Interesting, I did not know that. I always thought the GB version was a port similar to the ones done for Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat.
