I don't trust SE at all when they say they've learned their lesson.

In the early to mid 2000s, they were still giving us cool stuff like the Mega Man and MMX collections, the Onimusha series, the first Dead Rising, the classics collections, and trying to revamp Resident Evil with RE4. Hell, Mega Man 9 was 2008! What happened with them?
Loads of DLC? The cancellation of MML 3? Ignoring other popular IPs? Making the RE series a disgusting joke?
Yes, but when? That's what I'm asking? When did they get this way?
Last gen (PS3/360) I'd say. Comparing their library of games on the PS2 to what they put out last gen... gold to poo.

I liked RE5, especially after replaying it a few months back, it's actually aged well (still a lesser RE title, but good game nonetheless). Lost Planet 1-2 I enjoyed. Throw in the NES Megaman 9-10 throwbacks, and that's all that comes to mind for me. I know they have a good pull with Monster Hunter apprently... but still. What else did they do? Oh Dead Rising. More zombies. Yay.

What did they even do again for Megaman's 25th anniversary? Was it like some art piece? Cancelling Megaman games, dropping the ball on the RE series, forgetting about IP's like Onimush, DmC changing up a franchise for no apparent reason...

Inafune, Kamiya, and Mikami aren't around anymore either, unrepairable damage right there. Because all the IP's they handled that put Capcom on the map, were pretty much destroyed this last gen or seemingly ceased to exist.

It's really depressing. That logo, that chime, that name was an instant seal of quality and would sell me on anything, they were easily like top 5 or something for me from the NES to the PS2, and bam.

Square Enix are quite a bit better in my book, and I don't really speak of them very favorably anymore thesedays either. They don't put out much off and on, but I'd rather have that then Capcom crapping out stuff (Dark Void anyone) and handing their IP's out like candy for an overload of D-grade releases.

Konami, not even sure what to say about them anymore either. I'm always behind Kojima, but anything outside of the Metar Gear name... can't say they really did anything substantial over the last several years.

Sega is Sega. They'll have some surprises along with crap here and there, while continuing to juggle hilariously hit or miss directions with Sonic.

I guess Nintendo are like the only ones that I can still put faith in. But that said, I have no problem saying that when I was a kid, Megaman was a bigger icon to me over both Mario and Sonic. For Capcom to basically murder their own mascot, and piss on his grave, the damage has been done. For the entire PS3/360 gen, when I think of Capcom... nothingness comes to mind. Blank emptiness, sheer and utter boredom and apathy. The pain has made me numb.

I want to tweak this a little bit. I think Capcom's true decline began during that gen but more specifically when the Dreamcast died, and I'm not talking about Dreamcast titles specifically. Capcom's production across all their supported platforms was amazing at the time. Arcade, homeconsole, gameboy advance - they were invincible. But after Project Justice came out here in the US, Capcom seems to have really changed their business plan.

Yeah, you had a couple good games like Resident Evil 4 and Dead Rising but so much went to shit.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Say what you will about Capcom, but I am very much looking forward to Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, and they still make some pretty good fighters as well. Not sure what else is good from Capcom. Ace Attorney seems very well liked.

Capcom has had some gems but they have decided to leave a lot of it in Japan. EX Troopers is awesome and instead the US got the shit that was Lost Planet 3. The localization has been absolutely abysmal this generation. I love Capcom and their franchises but a lot of mistakes will cost them in the end. I really hope they reorganize and find their focus again.

Well, at least they allowed the original Mega Man to be in the new Smash Bros - that's gotta be worth something.
