Hell fucking yes! The only guy I knew of that had been doing a translation ended up dropping out after doing a bit of menu due to the construction of the data being really weird. I'll have to get this on my flash cart.Exhuminator wrote:First off, yeah, make sure you're using the newest version.Violent By Design wrote:Anyone have any tips for having the DS run smoother on emulator? These are the official recommended system requirements:
From: http://wiki.desmume.org/index.php?title ... DeSmuME.3FWindows OS: Windows Vista SP2 or later
Mac OS: OS X v10.6.8 Snow Leopard or later
Linux OS: Any recent Linux distribution with a 2.6 kernel.
CPU: 3.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent
RAM: 2 GB
If you've got a 64 bit machine make sure you're using the 64 bit version of the emulator too, you'll get much better performance.

Also, since we're speaking about emulation and DS again... you guys might like to know this bad boy just got translated:

Re: Must have DS RPGs
When you apply the patch, use the "USA" version one if you're not a big fan of grinding. Basically it halves the encounter rate and increases the gp/xp to compensate. The other patch just leaves things unchanged outside changing the language to English.MrPopo wrote:I'll have to get this on my flash cart.
Now we just need these translated...

Re: Must have DS RPGs
Stupid question - I've never used a flash cart with a DS.
To play these fan-translated games do I need an actual Japanese copy of the game + a flash cart? Or just the flash cart? Either way I'll end up buying the Japanese games, I'm just curious.

You'll need the Japanese ROM + patch + flashcart. The only reason you'd want the original game (besides personal ethics) would be if you wanted to dump it yourself (which you probably don't have the hardware for).BoneSnapDeez wrote:Stupid question - I've never used a flash cart with a DS.

Re: Must have DS RPGs
Yeah, unfortunately there's no way to apply the patch to a real DS cartridge and play it that way. You either play the patched ROM copied onto a flashcart, or through an emulator. There's been quite a few translated DS JRPGs now. Just off the top of my head:
7th Dragon
Archaic Sealed Heat
Culdcept
Fire Emblem: Heroes of Light and Shadow
SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu - Goddess of Destiny
SaGa 3: Rulers of Time and Space - Shadow or Light
Soma Bringer (Personally recommended.)
Tales of Innocence
Tales of the Tempest
I could be forgetting some more. There's also lots of non-JRPG Japanese DS games translated into English as well, but I'm not even going to try to make a list of those.

Re: Must have DS RPGs
Good to know. I can read enough Japanese to play those, but obviously English is vastly preferred.
I'll have to add 7th Dragon, ASH, and Soma Bringer to my wishlist as I'd like physical copies too...
I didn't even know that a couple SaGa games had been remade for the DS!

Re: Must have DS RPGs
I just want to know where you guys learn japanese if you play through the original cart from japan. If I could do that it would make a world of difference I would love to be able to read/understand it spoken to me. (too bad we don't have someone who can constantly update the first page of this it would be great to have a running list organized by whether or not it's available in america and if you have to get a translation or not to play it here if you don't understand japanese)

I couldn't answer that question, but here's a DS app you might find interesting all the same:darsparx wrote:I just want to know where you guys learn japanese if you play through the original cart from japan.

As for making a definitive list, that's a monumental task. There are over 4 pages of RPGs listed for DS at GameFAQs:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/ds/list-48?dist=1
Those are just the physically released ones, not including eShop ones. And that list doesn't even include the SRPGs on the system...

I just got the new version of the DS emulator, and its framerate still seems off.
Re: Must have DS RPGs
I recommend trying these cases out they were only $5 shipped each with Amazon Prime and they work pretty well for game storage. Only annoying thing is they have 2 slots for SD cards which are just wasted space. If you wanted to carry them around the thing is a little larger then an average wallet so it fits in your pocket rather easily.darsparx wrote:Ehh if i do that then I miss out on some great games....probably the biggest reason I need another one of those multi-game carrying cases for my games to slide into my current carrying case or I need a better carrying case for the ds

Also last time I was in gamestop they had a bunch of 3DS, DS, Wii, PSP, and Vita accessories discounted pretty heavily up front. Got a nice 3DS case for around $2.50.
