This I can agree with. I had to keep a hand written sheet of the order of the levels to remember my last actual save.

You guys do have to remember that I don't play many current games (if Infinite is even considered current), as my mo is classic games on a CRT. So when I played this on a big ol' sony bravia with surround sound, I was blown away by the environments and how odd the game was.

Same thing with Sleeping Dogs. I could complain about save states, but overall I was so impressed how far games have evolved that I didn't see any single reason to complain. Most of the time playing these games I'm wide eyed like a kid watching cartoons on a Saturday morning saying things like "This is amazing" and "Whoa! That was awesome".

But I rarely dislike a video game, so there ya go.

I can't even imagine what the developers were thinking taking away the ability to save whenever you wanted. Making a game less convenient sure as hell isn't a selling point for me.
I look at that as an increase in difficulty, to be honest. Save states are nice, but they also make every game a heck of a lot easier.

I've gotta be honest, I don't know what you guys are talking about regarding the save system. I beat the game in about a week, and don't remember having any issues with saving. What was the mess? Maybe I just don't recall, or maybe I didn't run into any it by luck.

When I would "Continue" I would be on a level I played days ago. And when you load a game, the load menu doesn't list levels by your progression. It was confusing to find out where you last left off.

This did not happen to me playing through on normal. Did you play it on the hardest difficulty - the one that was deliberately super-hardcore or whatever?

 I have no clue.

I do know that when I used "Continue" it would always place me back to a level where signs for "Lincoln for Slaves" or something were prevalent.

I ended up googling "Bioshock Infinite level list no-spoilers" to figure out where I had last been.

A good or bad save system should have absolutely nothing to do with the difficulty of a game - that's basically like saying if a game has bad graphics or bad music, it only adds to the difficulty. It's a technical flaw, and was a major downgrade compared to the two older games in the series, and considering the state of gaming today, there really isn't any excuse to incorporate such a back-asswards save system. Ruined it completely for me.

But it does. By even having a save system it makes a game easier. Some save systems basically are the equivalent of giving you infinity lives.

No offense, but that's inane. A save system is absolutely a design choice that is tied to difficulty and I don't see what Irrational did as a "step backward" so much as a deliberate choice meant to force players to complete certain sections in full, suffer full penalties for dying, etc. That IS about difficulty.

But that's also the nature of playing a long, intricate video game - imagine if in the original Zelda on NES you couldn't save. It would be impossible to complete unless you play for ten straight hours (and that's assuming you know where everything is and what to do). Saving in games has been around since the mid-80s and is there for the sake of convenience, NOT inconvenience.
