My gf was loading up pictures onto photoshop; screen blinked and said "crash dump".
It started running some code then the screen went blank.
She tried to power it off by holding the power button down for "over 20 seconds" but it won't turn off.
She has an external hard drive that seems to still running and "hopefully" backing up her files.
Questions:
What happened?
Should I unplug it?
Should I threaten it with physical violence?
Any help is appreciated...
HALP! Girlfriends PC crashed...me thinks?

Your attempts at humor have been terrible for the past several years,
I'd say your attempts would be laughable, but that would give you too much credit as no laughs are involved.
I do give you credit for making some members leave the site due to your lack of funniness.

What happened? Any number of things. Anything from a driver conflict, to something hitting a bad bit of RAM to a million other things.mjmjr25 wrote:Questions:

Should you unplug it? Yes. Desktop? Hit the switch on the back of the power supply before unplugging. Laptop? Pull the battery if it won't shut off.
Should you threaten it with physical violence? As much as you're comfortable with.
Once you've got it off, wait a little bit. Turn it back on and see what happens. (I'm going to assume you're running a Windows box) Does it boot back up? Do you get a blue screen right away? Endless reboot cycle? What happens next depends on the outcome of what happens when you turn it back on.

Shhh! He's getting something special from some lady who won't let him see the sealed containers, but he's sure it's a steal.
These posts are more disappointing than when this guy relapses.

Mike do you have a degaussing coil for your arcade monitor? turn it on next to the hard drive and slowly wave it around it in a figure 8 pattern, then do the same to the external HD. its probably a virus, viruses are magnetic and the degaussing coil will suck them out.

I do, she still has it turned off. Going to follow Irixith's instructions first and if no go, i'll give that a whirl.ninjainspandex wrote:Mike do you have a degaussing coil for your arcade monitor? turn it on next to the hard drive and slowly wave it around it in a figure 8 pattern, then do the same to the external HD. its probably a virus, viruses are magnetic and the degaussing coil will suck them out.

I feel sad that I have to watch the joke flying so far over my head.
