Games that reward you for picking the evil route

Post by RCBH928 »

As I play games I have hardly come by games that reward you for picking the evil/bad-guy route. In fact, any game that offers you a choice on the path you will take is really going to punish you for picking the non-good-guy decisions .

This has been around for very long I especially remember it in point and click games where there is always a silly remark but you know if you pick that remark you will get punished for it or you won't get the response you want that advances you in the game.

Can you name games that rewards you equally for picking any route you choose? I heard Fable did this but I never played Fable.

The Knights of the Old Republic give you better force powers, IMO, for being evil. Fable will let you get certain chests if you are evil enough or do certain evil things

True, but I remember that the first game only gave you access to the very best weapons towards the end of the game if you were light side.

Yeah. Kind of a trade off. I just like force lightning and choke.

Doesn't KoTOR limit upper tier force powers on either side to characters that are heavily skewed to one or the other? The Dark Side ones might still be better, of course, been a while since I played it.

I think Bioware tries to make sure either path is viable, and often doesn't make it pure good or evil. Dragon Age is probably their most morally grey series, as it's designed to be. I know some of the epilogue type stuff reveals that lawful good type choices didn't pan out too well for some areas. Similarly, the Witcher games also can have seemingly good choices come back to bite you.

I think most of the time, when the "good" route is favored, it's also the harder route (unless it's Demon's Souls). Limiting yourself to non-lethal weapons or powers, not taking every chance for upgrades or resources, that kind of thing. In turn, you are "rewarded" for picking the less-good option, in form of having an easier time along the way.

It's been years since I played those games, but from what I remember anyone could have any power. The catch was that a light side character wouldn't deal as much damage from dark side powers as a dark side character would, and vice-versa.

Ah, yep, you're right, it's that cost to use rises. It's KoTOR II that also gives a light or dark exclusive skill. Otherwise, it's mostly gear, same as in SWTOR.

The inFamous games are known for this type of play and having played the first one to completion as both good and evil I'd say that's true for sure.

Mass Effect is also a game that isn't easier or harder if you go Renegade vs. Paragon.

IMO, Fable was easier if you went the evil route because you got experience from killing the civilians. So you would level up faster.

I think the trope is evil equates to much easier grind/mid game, but your end game is weaker than light in most games.
