Love CTR.
Still, GT started an amazing franchise.

GT is an amazing franchise, but the PS1 versions - IMO, at least - have not held up as well as the N64's stellar kart racers. (Besides, we all know that Beetle Adventure Racing is the best racing game of its generation.)Luke wrote:Love CTR.

Pod Racers wasn't bad.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

The games I most miss from the N64 is the Cruisin' trilogy.
N64 has some good racers and 3d platformers, but the PS1 has those too...it also has a broader FPS library.

While Mario Kart 64 was a fun party game with friends, I never liked how slow they are. Those karts can really plod along.

This is true. Moreover, the PS1 first person shooters "feel" more of a classic DOS games. (I still love the PS1 ports of Dark Forces, Doom, and Final Doom.) There N64 couterparts, however, feel like you are playing them on a more powerful computer, and I prefer the N64 versions of Doom, Forsaken, Hexen, Quake, and Quake II.dsheinem wrote:it also has a broader FPS library.

Yeah, I dont really see how n64 is better than PSX unless someone never took the time to actually dive into the PSX. You have to dig deep to name 30 really good n64 games, PSX had a gigantic library, and of course was way more genre diverse where n64 neglected genres flat out.
Also, the statement of "PSX was only remembered for maybe 4 or 5 games", is like the polar opposite of how n64 vs PSX was. n64 was really only known for being "top heavy", and still is to this day by most people I've talked too.
Ape Escape was really good, might be the best 3D platformer of that era to be honest. I do think Mario 64/Banjo are easily better than Spyro and Crash, though I never played Spyro 3.
I also think saying the n64 had better FPS than PSX (which I would agree) is negligible, because the FPS from either ones were bad, and as of now severely outdated.

PS1 still has WipeOut and Ridge Racer which I assume are still pretty good games. I liked Mario Kart 64 better than both, but I haven't dived into a lot of the other kart racers of that era like Crash.prfsnl_gmr wrote:GT is an amazing franchise, but the PS1 versions - IMO, at least - have not held up as well as the N64's stellar kart racers. Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Don't get me wrong. I love the PS1. I have a pretty extensive N64 collection, but my PS1 collection is probably 4x larger. Both systems have their strong suits, and I think we can certainly appreciate both.

N64 is still good, but it is Nintendo's worse home console by far.
The n64 I think had a good advantage in the sports games genres. I think ports of games like NFL Blitz and Tony Hawk were probably better on the n64 (at least I remember thinking so). The wrestling games were better on the n64. I think Ken Griffy Jr Slugfest was probably the best baseball game I had played of that era, and that was exclusive to N64 I think.
