Confusion! Anyway...I'm not worried about silliness (I dug that Gravediggas stuff when it came out) but I remembered his awesome rhyme on a Sunz of Man track (I'll dig it out) then I discover he's don loads of stuff! I'm kinda liking it!noiseredux wrote:As one of the late-arriving members of the Wu-Tang Clan

Re: Hip Hop/Rap Fanatics Unite!
the Allmusic review is wrong. He was never consider part of Wu-Tang. He's just part of that extended Killa Bee fam. The only members of the group to receive member-status after Enter The Wu-Tang would be Masta Killa (though he did have a verse on "Da Mystery of Chessboxin") and Capadonna.

Sorry if this has been posted already. But since you guys are discussing my favorite group of all time, I thought I would share this:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/zackomalley ... ret-album/
A secret album dating back to their prime days and produced by Cilvaringz (whom is one of my favorite artists from their stable of great artists). Seriously though, if I never get to hear this album I may start a riot.

yeah me and Irish were discussing it a few pages back. I'm not thrilled w/ the idea of a Wu album that won't be released to everyone.Frag Mortuus wrote:Sorry if this has been posted already. But since you guys are discussing my favorite group of all time, I thought I would share this:

Re: Hip Hop/Rap Fanatics Unite!
I think that taking a single line of any rap song out of context can make the lyric seem silly. But for the "Your arms too short to box with God" lyric, it's obviously a euphemism meaning that other rappers can't compete with him. So, to try to take a rap lyric and discount it based on literal meaning discredits the whole genre. Rapping is all about clever euphemisms and putting words together fluidly and coherently.Luke wrote:How is he silly? Ya mean like beyond the fact he goes by the name "Priest Killah"? Okay, let me not have to think about that.noiseredux wrote: How is he silly? His solo albums get good reviews but i havent heard them.
He "raps" with guys called Dreddy Kruger and Hell Razah. Even the douche bags who love the IPC have more creative names.
Let's talk lyrics, or lack there of.
"Put one foot front in front of the other, Brother"
Insightful and original. And silly.
"Your arms too short to box with God"
Pretty sure if God exists he isn't into boxing. Silly.
"King Tut"
Any reference to King Tut in Rap music is silly as no one who raps knows a single damned thing about King Tut.
Facts, not opinions.
You listen to reviews of his tracks, but haven't actually listened to his records. Silly.
And he goes by the name "Killah Priest". Silly.
As far as the King Tut reference, I don't think its too far fetched to assume that Killah Priest knows enough about Egyptian history to make a reference to him in his music. After all they teach a minimal amount about it in public schools. Also, the core members of Wu-Tang are pretty knowledgeable about Japanese history and mythology (at least RZA is, and the others seem to have some knowledge) so why is it hard to believe that Priest would know something about Egyptians?
Lastly, I dont think there is a rapper alive that doesn't have something silly in their name, lyrics, actions, or wardrobe. Hip Hop is a very over the top culture. That's part of the fun of it.

I actually think Dreddy Kruger is an awesome name, haha.
I also think ICP serves some purpose. The whole "clown society" thing. Now THAT is a silly group. But they're hilariously ridiculous. I usually throw them around Halloween. If Gravediggaz are Hellraiser, then ICP is House II. Which is to say, I don't think ICP is "good," but I do think they're funny and fun.
(EDIT: Bah! Killer Klowns From Outerspace... that's what I should have said!)

Yeah. There's something about people who take themselves too seriously that's reeaaaalllly boring.Luke wrote:...I dont think there is a rapper alive that doesn't have something silly in their name, lyrics, actions, or wardrobe. Hip Hop is a very over the top culture. That's part of the fun of it.
I did kinda know that KP wasn't a Wu member, just wondered if it had been covered in the Wu comparison. On reflection though he can't have been or this would have needed a completely new thread! Wu comparison wiki ftw!

I've always thought that whatever one thinks of ICP, their music, and their fanbase, you have to respect the grind those guys put in. They don't do a thing for me, but creating your own thriving, lucrative musical empire outside the realm of critical praise or mainstream attention is no easy feat.noiseredux wrote:I actually think Dreddy Kruger is an awesome name, haha.
