That was pretty funny!
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

If the topic on slavery is still on,
I always wondered , through human history, why did slaves never left their masters. Why they never said I will just leave and move to another land. I know that many nations enslaved the losers of wars, given the losers were probably warriors and skilled men they could have easily left.
Another question is, how come owners of slaves trusted their slaves around the house. In modern society where strangers might just pull a gun on you for whatever is in your wallets, I would never trust a slave around the house especially while I am sleep or around my kids.
Do you think slaves ever thought of themselves that they were actually less of a human than their masters, and thats why they were made into slaves? Or did they believe their enslavement was just a punishment for something they did or a war they lost?

The guy who shipped me this gave me the complete package with everything. While you might think this was a good thing, when I received the packaged I was surprised the heaviest part of the package was the box and a heavy manual in it. I believe the HD-DVD unit is lighter than the box. Basically I ended up paying extra shipping dollars for just a box and a manual I will never use.
The sad part is that IIRC I paid around same shipping price in late 2006 for a brand new 360 shipped from the USA. This was shipped from UK.
I was going to get a LaserDisc because I got an itch for it too, I tried to search locally for a unit but couldn't find any(I swear they are out there). After doing research online I was told that I would probably end up paying around $200 for a good LD player and factor in the shipping price and price of LD's with their shipping... you can see this is an insane purchase .

Is that movie really good or is it the kind of movie that has its own cult of lovers with unique taste?CRTGAMER wrote:Great movie! Definitely that is one for RCBH928 to purchase for its exclusive HD picture. I'm stuck with the Laser Disc and DVD. Hopefully it will get a repressing Anamorphic on the DVD.Nemoide wrote:Hey, HD-DVD is still the only way to watch Streets of Fire in HD. So there's that?

You can look at the situation like a prison. The inmates outnumber the guards by a large margin, yet uprisings and escapes are relatively few and far between. Many slaves did escape, that is what the Underground Railroad was created for. It was very difficult though. The law for a long time in America was they had to be gone for like 5 years and 1 day before they were considered free, even in free states. Some were brought back much later than that. There were also many uprisings, but they usually ended with the deaths of all involved, and some that were not. As far as in the house with the families, those slaves were usually women and older men and still lived under the fear of brutality.
As far as slavery in other parts, some were given as a peace settlement. They were slaves but welcomed into the tribes as friends usually. The book Things Fall Apart explores this, if you want to read it. The culture of African tribes played a big part in not escaping and going home. Some believed it was their punishment for not being better warriors.
Slavery as an institution has been around for a long time. The Romans used conquered warriors as gladiators. In Saudi Arabia, slavery wasnt abolished until the 1960's. Some forms of slavery is still going on today is Asia and Arabia.

Pretty sure it's a planet. The battle took place on one of its moonsLuke wrote:Is Endor a moon or a planet?
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Planet, but since the only relevant thing about it is the Forest Moon, just referring to that as Endor seems fine too.Luke wrote:Is Endor a moon or a planet?
