My first MMO was RuneScape back in 2002ish. I put way too many hours into chopping down trees in that game.

I've dabbled in WoW (got to around level 50 when Cataclysm came out), but as soon as the two-month subscription card ran out, I stopped. Never paid for it.

I really enjoyed City of Heroes for a while, and am definitely looking forward to Firefly Online.

The GW2 changes do look interesting, so I will probably hop on and see what has changed when the patch drops. I'm also still pretty jaded over a map completion bug they refuse to acknowledge the now 7 times I have reported it with full details and screenshots.

Wanna know some more bullshit? Unless they've changed it without my knowing, you can't even play as the Imperial race unless you buy the collector's edition.
Then the game really is well and truly dead.

You know what I wanted to do? I wanted to get together a band of pirates and go plunder Dagon Fel and the nearby surrounding islands. That was all. But I can't. I don't have the freedom to do that. Instead, I have to participate in their stupid race war, just like in WoW or Warhammer. Screw that. If I want to run around as a Nord with Redguards, High Elves, and Argonians, I should have every right to.

You can switch alliances.............when you reach end game essentially.

Yeah they really screwed the pooch with this one.

Not wanting to be too nerdy, but I will, the Alliances don't even make sense from a lore perspective and seem like they were done so each one had a warrior/mage/thief archetype. There is no way the Nords, Dunmer and Argonians would ever come together for anything. So forced.

And yeah, limiting the player's freedom to certain areas in a game series known primarily for its open world nature is dumb.

My other problem, one that I have with most MMO's I've played is that, is that unlike regular Elder Scrolls games I know I won't be the first person to explore say a dwemer ruin or a hidden cave. I'll most likely be with a buddy and when we get to the end we'll find "xxxdarkangel13xxx" doing a dance over a dwemer centurions corpse. It'll lose that sense of adventure and empowerment for me.

That is the thing! A lot of the dungeons are open so what you actually experience isn't just finding xxxdarkangel13xxx it is him and 25 other players running through the dungeon. In the Beta, I could go through the dungeon quests and NEVER FIGHT ANYTHING! I could summon the boss, hit him a couple times and watch as 10+ people attack him and I could then go on my merry way with a completed task.

I never lose that sense of discovery even when going through a place with 20 other random people. Exploring in WoW never felt cheapened just because an entire guild rolled past the giant spooky tower I was exploring. Honestly, the coming and going of players makes the world feel more alive, imo.

ESO was bound to be very different than other Elder Scrolls games. Of course they were going to flex the lore and do things that wouldn't have made sense in the other games, ESO is a whole different genre. I haven't played the game, though. This is just my impression from what I've seen and know.

I agree that not being able to play Imperial without special edition is crap.

I didnt try ESO at all. But from what I've seen I wouldn't mind the outside world being populated by humans. In the dungeons or similar locales I want those to be my own instants of the game. I watched the Quick Look Giantbomb has up and Jeff mentioned that having other people in the same area effectively eliminates stealth, a class he built for the video. You can't go in for a sneak attack critical because someone is running through the cave with a mace not giving a crap.

That is really what is going on. The stealth stuff isn't very effective outside of combat. It is simply a state you put yourself in with an ability and then use a skill that requires you to be stealthed. You don't need to be out of sight to be "Stealthed" and the stealth effect only lasts around 5 seconds...if that.

you would think having a bunch ofplayers populating the world would be a good thing, but when you see hundreds of people in jammed into the crafting area and there being no way to discern a player character from an NPC (I hope they fixed that..because that is a HUGE problem), it really affects the experience.

Trust me, seeing people doing stupid stuff and jumping around all over the place does not improve the atmosphere and world. Add to it a chat that is being flooded with derogatory comments and "FS 2H FS 200G" doesn't help either.
